silcone Donna don't look at the images posted

Been working on my door where there is at least a case of silcone used on just the door! So I a scrapping all this silcone off and for crying out loud, this stuff is everywhere!!!! So here is pictures of the mess and scrapping going on.
The last photo shows the huge crack in the fiberglass at the bottom of the door facing. The PO just threw silcone and rubber at this door and frame, trying to seal the door.......So I am going to fix the crack and enforce the door frame on the hinge side with 3/4 " square steel tubing tied to the bolts that holds the body to the frame. I am figuring if I don't use something strong like steel the first time the wind grabs the door the fiberglass will crack again and the door won't seal again.

Ideally, fiberglass should be "fixed" with fiberglass, so I hope that's what you'll be using to fix the cracks. Reinforcing plates are a good idea...

And:

Silicone does have its uses, even on fiberglass trailers! If only for the temporary plugging of inconveniently timed leaks/fissures that may appear, I always keep a tube of silicone in my emergency kit. More permanent repairs to be done at home and at my leisure, of course.

I loathe silicone!!! All it takes to achieve this level of hate is to go through what Sam is going through...

I am removing all traces of silicone from my Burro, and it's taken quite a while, but I'm almost silicone free. The stuff doesn't bond well to fiberglass (unless you want to remove it, and then it seems to bond just fine!) and is inflexible enough (if it won't stretch as much as the material its bonded to) to form bad seals that leak, and it creates such a mess!

I have seen this thread and I got my local hardware store to get me some, I picked it up yesterday so I will give a report when I use it, soon.

Good timing. I need to face after 5 years of attempting to pretend I had never seen it, the escape hatch on my trailer needs pulling out and resetting with butyl. Lots of silicon around the hatch. It hasnt leaked yet but its kept under cover in winter and after washing the trailer last week I can see some of the silicon is lifting so it needs to be dealt with. Going to try the Dap Silicone Be Gone.
