Spare tire Continental Kit
I really like the look of the steel banded spare tire covers. Does anyone know a good retail outlet in which to purchase one? I have a D size spare, high lift axle, on my Casita SD17.
Would also like to hear from anyone who has made this mod and ditched the vinyl stretch cover.

Possibly not because the metal ring may be somewhat larger than the tire. At the very least you will have to put the clamping part slightly off to one side.
The spares are usually intentionally resting on the bumpers to take load off of the fiberglass wall, so you may not want to just raise the mount for clearance.

There is a lot of slop in the round plate that secures the tire to the shell. If you stuck a board between the tire and bumper, tightened the tire bolts, then removed the board there should be enough space to get the ring on.
If you get the Orbital spare tire mount (and have a rear receiver) then the spare just hangs in free space.

Sorry the pix is rotated. Not sure how to get it right side up, but you get the idea.

This looks very nice! For your size D Spare Tire, which size Continental Kit did you purchase from that retailer?

Continental Kit Stainless Steel Tire Cover (P225, P235 75 R15 Tires)
You should measure carefully, as per the vendor. And the steel band needs to be tightened a few times when new.
We still love ours, and it's easy to keep clean & shiny.

My spare is a Goodyear Marathon, size ST225/75R15, load rating D. It measures 28 inches in diameter and 9 inches in depth. From the website listed below, they do not list any dimensions similar to what I have. I have emailed their customer service for help.

They said, In order to ensure a proper fit we ask that you measure the circumference of your tire and the thread width of just the part that touches the ground.
Excellent retailer. Thank you for the suggestion!

glad to hear the kit and supplier worked out for you - they were the best price and quality and were good to deal with for me as well. You can also get parts for it if needed later on. I will be a Bluebonnet if you want to see it customized.
