Spice Rack My Scamp

I'm pretty pleased with myself! I utilized the space above the fridge and microwave cupboard in my 16 ft Scamp (layout #6) to organize my spices. I bought some 11" long plastic trays from the dollar store and used double sided adhesive to mount them to the little bump out above the microwave cupboard. Also picked up little plastic bottled with aluminum lids from the dollar store to put the spices in and used my label maker to make labels. The set of six fit perfectly in each.Great use of an otherwise waste of space. Click image for larger version

Spice Rack My Scamp

I forgot to add that I placed another row of trays behind the spice trays in order to have them far enough forward that the bottles would fit in where the roof is a bit taller. The row behind can hold other incidentals.

nice look

hi---i like the look. one caveat----i hope that the bottles stay put while you are travelling. in my experience using a similar idea, after hitting bumps and the usual
traffic issues, i found everything all over the place.

good luck! you surely must do alot of cooking while travelling. i have brought
a number of spices with me on various trips but found i rarely used more than 3.

Liz,

Your rack looks great. We have an plastic spice rack attached to the wall using Scotch high bond strength tape. We have about 5 or 6 McCormick's type spice bottles in the rack.

Our rack and spices are decidedly smaller than yours but are a tight fit. Because of the tight fit we've never had one come out while traveling. We have a similar situation in the bathroom with meds, tight fit keeps them in place.

Thanks everyone Yes, I did wonder how they would fare during actual travel. They are a fairly tight fit so I'll see how they do, but my backup plan is to secure them in place with a strip of fabric across the top of the bottles, secured with some velcro on the side of the spice trays.

Although I'm thinking it will definitely take awhile to go through that amount of spices, we do love to cook when we go camping. Next I'm on the lookout for a good used dutch oven to add to our camping gear. There are tons of dutch oven/camping recipes online and I'm excited to try some! (over the fire)

We built a spice rack for our 1999 Scamp in the same location (Above the microwave cabinet) . We used oak kitchen cabinet spindle rail . Spices stayed in place during travel

Oh would love to see a pic of that Steve! I'm not so handy with power tools, unfortunately.

Best place to store spices is in a cool, dark place.
