Time for another game of "Wotzit?"

You win, but its a crumby prize.. nuttin! But play anyway. I am curious how many folks know when I hadn't a clue.

Strolling thru an old junk store here in Quartzsite (Which is about all there is to do here, so I do it a lot!) I came across a table full of these "things" All different sizes, Some ornately decorated and personalized, some rough like this one, some more boxy and perfect, some with straighter divisions, but all appeared to serve the same purpose.

I hadn't a clue WHAT that purpose was, but it clicked that I had one for it. Its an antique, so it wasn't cheap, but I had to have it as I love old stuff like this. Its the right color for my decor, and, once again, it is perfect for what I use it for.

OK, I'll tell you what it is used for now in the next post, but you gotta guess what it WAS used for long ago. (I asked, I know, I went "Duh!")

and now it is my laptop charging station!





with a cat in the "house" it is hard to keep him from sitting on the laptop as the only flat spot I can stow it in is also under "his" window he likes to look out. I was constantly moving the thing out of his way. There was really no other spot to put it for storage except in my pantry cupboard.. and that was a royal pain.

This looks nice and serves a purpose.. what the heck.

By how flat it is on the open end and what looks like a handle on the other end i'm guessing it's a very old "Dust Pan"

I am sure it is a scoop. Like Ken said, for corn, beans, or even livestock meal.

I didn't even come close to guessing, mostly because the shop I got it at sold mostly old lobster fishermans stuff. Traps, floats etc. I was trying to think of how it related to fishing, but it didn't.

Thank you for your comment, Ken. I have a gazillion pics of the inside of this rig. I won't bore everyone else with them tho, I have posted many. Do a search.

I live in it, so there are added niceties to make it more functional and comfy.

We have one room in our home that is Amish (guest room). We've had the grain scoop on our wall for about 15 years or more. It's a little different from yours, but it sure makes a great holder for our Amish books.

The quilt is an actual Amish quilt - The name is "Grandma's Fan". I knocked on the door to a farm house outside of Buffalo, NY in the Amish countryside. They had a sign that just said Quilts. Went in and they showed me a stack of quilts about 3 feet high .. They pulled them back, one at a time until I found this one ... and bought it.. I also purchased another for our bedroom a couple of years later .. it was the same house - the whole family makes quilts during the winter .. No electric .. Father sewed together on a peddle sewing machine..

This scoop with the tines resembles ones you find in Wisconsin that were used for picking cranberries. I'd guess yours was used in some similar fashion; there's really no point in having tines if you're just scooping grain.
