UHaul CT 13 TV Wiring

My CT13 has a 4 pin connector to the TV. It occurs to me that I should at least add an additional connection so the the deep cycle battery is charged from the TV while I am underway.

I could convert both vehicles to a 7 pin connector, or just add an additional weather proof plug. Would the connection at the trailer just be made to the + terminal of the battery or is there a need for a diode as well as a fuse? A diode would prevent accidental back feeding to the TV from the inverter.

Comments / suggestions?

Switch

To prevent charging or discharging in either direction, I installed a lighted switch on the dash of the tow vehicle in line from the battery to the trailer. As well I have a 15 amp fuse in the line.

I only charge when underway and shut it off before I stop. As a double check I always disconnect electrically from the tow vehicle even if I am not mechanically disconnecting from the tow vehicle.

A number of people on the site have installed a relay to perform this function. I like doing it myself.

Thanks for the reply. Any thoughts re the wiring connector? If I change it to a 7 pin it will be standardized, though just adding a second connector would be easier for me.

You would like it better if you changed to a RV 7 plug, then it would be done.

You need a heavier gauge wire for the TV to Egg battery charging so it would be best to go to the 7 Plug/Jack as Roger recommended above then wire both vehicles with the proper gauge wires. Do it once, do it right and forgetaboutit.

I recommend converting to the 7 pin system also, just to keep it standardized and simple to use.
