I'm a bit confused. On our VT, the screws that hold the lens on go right through the black interior piece and into the fiberglass wall. There aren't any bolts to drill out and the interior piece can come right out. Did a previous owner put in something extra to hold in the interior bulb holder? Mike's VT may not show any bolts either. Maybe a picture of your assembly would help us! Otherwise, the removed assembly just leaves a big hole with four small holes around it for the screws.

Sorry I guess I didn't understand ,its just a hole in the fiberglass big enough to accept the rubber tail light housing with four nylon inserts in the remaining fiberglass around the perimeter spaced under the screw holes in the lens. you can see the spacing on the original pictures of the rubber housing. From what you describe you have bolts replacing the screws so you need the nylon inserts which are available at any auto parts store or Lowes. I am assuming the PO didn't drill new holes for the bolts. I think there is a picture in theUHaul parts manual available in the document center if you don't already have it, also my spreadsheet with parts info

I'm pretty sure I've seen photos here of the empty UHaul tail light sockets, but one would need to do a search to find them.

So is it just attach to the first layer of fiberglass wall or is there another layer under it?

I'm just trying to have a visual of how it is under the taillights before i start my mod, i want to modify the daapters so by seeing how it is under i will know is my idea is doable or not.

Since i need to drill out the screws holding the light due to rust, i dont want to do it just to look under as i will be doing the mod later on ...so I'm looking for a pic to visualize the setup

Yep, they just drilled 4 holes in the outer shell inserted the nylon inserts plopped in the rubber housing and screwed the screws through the lens holes and rubber flange on the housing into the nylon.
Be careful drilling as the lens is irreplaceable. I would go in from the inside of the trailer with small side cutters and cut the legs off the inserts , the housing should pop out and you can unscrew the remainder of the nylon off the back. This assumes that from your last post they are screws. If bolts then use a dremel with a cut off wheel or on second thought use it for both options.
