UHaul Tongue Rack
I wanted some kind of storage rack on my UHaul for stuff like the grey water tank, but couldn't find anything manufactured that seemed appropriate. Compounding things, the propane tank is mounted there along with the swinging tongue jack.
I decided to make a rack on just one side to avoid the folding jack. I recently bought some 3/4" aluminum U channel from the scrap yard, plus a bunch of stainless bolts, all @ $2 a pound, which I used for this project. The main support is a 1 1/4" square tube clamped to the tongue. The fore / aft pieces have a slot cut on one end and I used stainless steel hose clamps to attach these pieces to the tubular frame. The other attachments are stainless steel screws or aluminum pop rivets. I used my table saw with a fine carbide blade to cut the aluminum.

Looks great!
But how does it work with turning? Do you hit it?

Very Nice!
Tom,
If you decide to design a rack to hold a pram on the roof I will buy
your blueprints! My British Seagull outboard motor needs one when I go UHaulin!!

Thomas,
You called this your gray water tank. Is this for collecting your used wash water? If so, how are you hooking it up? Does it just sit outside the trailer, connected to the outside drain pipe? Also, do you strap it down when driving? Nice piece of workmanship!

The photos don't show it well, but it is within the triangle made by the coupler and each side of the trailer. So one would have to jack knife the trailer pretty hard to hit it.

Thanks for the compliment. I remember the old Seagull motors - rope start and very utilitarian.

Thanks. The grey water (wash water) tank sits on the ground when in use and is connected with a short length of garden hose to a fitting on the underside of the floor (UHaul original). I plan to carry the empty tank strapped in the rack so that it does not live in the trailer or TV when underway.

A little off topic, But, Where do U haul ct13 owners carry their spare rim and tire? I really hate to start drilling hole and mounting racks here and there. h.mike.
