The switch to Digital transmission was mandated so they could transmit HD, as well as pick up about a bazillion additional sub-channels, ex 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 etc. But if a station is still using lower def studio equipment, such as a local independent or an educational/school station and/or pre-recorded sources, they may not be full HD.

And I believe that repeater transmitters for some remote locations are still exempt and can be analog.

Yep, that's correct, but the lack of bandwidth in analog system created the need to go to Digital transmission systems.

The channels were digital. 480 resolution is essentially Standard Definition.

I would be happy to have terrestrial broadcasts except fur commercials which take up 50% of the broadcasts.

We used the antenna all weekend. It was a rainy
weekend so it was used a lot. On each side of our
little Scamp was a TT with satellite as I stated
it was a rainy weekend and the trailers with satellite
lost reception during the storms. My signal was
great with plenty to watch...

Glad it worked out so well for you Mike. I bookmarked the link you posted earlier for this. It sounds like the "Big Boys" could learn a trick or two for the FGRV crowd! Sorry you got so much rain, but happy you made the best of it. Thanks for the report and pics.

A friend took his house boat to Silver Glens FL for a weekend trip. The closest TV stations are aprox 65 miles. Never able to get any TV stations from there before. He picked up a Clearstream 2V from Wal-Mart and was amazed he picked up 43 channels including all the major networks.

I have the Clearstream 4 on my home and get HD quality on all local channels so I can attest to the excellent quality. How do you have the antenna mounted. My trailer is a Casita SD 17. I tried that Phillips thing with zero luck. Luckily I have free returns with Amazon.

I think it's important to have a "V" in the Clearstream model number. My understanding is that the "V" designates the model incorporates additional antenna arms specifically designed for enhanced VHS reception. At least that's my understanding....

Home Depot has a 10' galvanized fence pole that is tapered on one end so you can cut it in half for transport. I hammered into the ground a steel rod and then placed the fence pole over the rod. Works great a friend is picking up quality reception over 65 miles away my distance is 50 miles.

Kevin K, I'm sure there are others out there much more knowledgeable than I am about all of this, but I believe all of the free airwave TV and radio broadcasts are VHF. So that's what you'd want to connect to (VHF Out). Also, I believe that when antennas are "amplified" by 120V AC power, that just means they can transmit the signal they have already received out over a longer coax cable distance - like when the antenna is on one end of a house and the TV is on the other end. For a little 13' to 20' camper, there should be no reason to plug in the amplifier unit even if one is built into the antenna. We mounted an amplify-able ClearStream 2V in the attic of our home and are pulling in 24 airwave stations from a major city about 40-50 miles away (pretty much every thing being transmitted from there). But since it's only about a 20-25 foot coax cable run from the antenna to each of the two TVs, we didn't power the amplifier, and we do just fine. I hope that makes sense....

TV signals are now all digital and can be either VHF and UHF, depends on the station. You need an antenna that will receive both if you want to receive the most stations. Radio broadcast signals use either the AM band 535-1605 kHz or the FM band 88-108 MHz.

I hooked my TV up to the UHF/VHF Out connector.
I get 51 Channels now .(Mpls,MN)
My old antenna got 45 channels.
This antenna will be for my home, not for my 17' Casita . ( I don't have cable TV)

David, Thanks for your clarification. I was under the impression that my TV channel searches had turned up only VHF broadcasts - not any UHF. But after your post, I went back and did a quick check and found out that at least one was indeed UHF (ABC affiliate out of Montgomery, AL). I didn't know any stations in my area were broadcasting in UHF, but some are, probably more than just the one, and now I know. Thanks....
