Cool Update, Kai's 73 amerigfo in Seattle

Hi!

Today, Jan 30, the refurbished frame arrived in our driveway on a huge boom truck. Paul and Stuart Kendall put rubber strips on the top of it, poked the hold-down holes open, and lifted and settled the shell onto the 2-part industrial epoxy-coated now all-white frame.

In the last two days, Paul took out the front window, cleaned, sanded, made a new wooden frame (thicker, with wood cut to fill the corner radii (radiuses?), primed and painted the opening, and reinstalled it with butyl rubber tape and new screws, each one dipped in beeswax (a new toilet ring) before putting into the new wood. The rock shield has been marine-white painted and is ready for its new polycarbonate (generic lexan) window to be installed for see-thru capability.

We discovered a leak in the ceiling, possibly the front closet ceiling vent, so that'll have to be dealt with soon...maybe today, as it looks sunny and clear. A good time to do it before we go any further.

Very exciting! WISH I could get the picture function to work--but as soon as we can, we'll drag her to a meet in WA or OR.

One of these days we'll be able to get the three sheets of marine plywood out of our living room! (Not that it isn't lovely...)

Best to all.

Hi Kai,

That sounds like a lot of headway - the man is really moving right along! All holes patched? The fixed up frame sounds really great. Yes, it is radii, take it from an engineer.

Finding leaks this time of the year? My Scamp is under the Scamport, but even if it weren't, we have not had any liquid water in VT for a while to test it. You are on the other side of the world, it seems.

I hope you can post some pics. Good luck.

To attach pictures, just click on "Go Advanced" and then the usual paper clip icon.
I hope that works for you so we can see some pics.
