Microwave placement

Here is a photo of our microwave placement. The shelf above the microwave has 1 1/2" round holes drilled with the circular bit used to install door locks in houses all along the back edge and when in use we pull the basket forward. The same drill bit was used to drill a small hole in the lower corner of the door (rather than make holes in the fibreglass) to pass the plug through. We run a short heavy duty extension from the plug next to the sink under the matress (with new 2-person front dinette, bed is now always in 'down' position). The microwave is a small inexpensive Danby from Wally's World.

I use a microwave at home a fair bit but I some how managed to get by camping 140 plus nights last year without one in the trailer and can honestly say I didnt miss it. No looking up at an empty shelf for me - the shelf it would take is full with items I use/need far more frequently. Now if I had a bigger trailer with more storage I might consider adding one but as long as mine is only 16' the closest space is more important to me. Potatoes cook fast on the BQ if you cut them up into cubes and wrap in foil - taste the same.

Not really interested in a microwave for my camper, tho I use mine in the house a lot for heating, and quick starting baked potatoes. My camper is made to keep things simple. I don't want to cook in a microwave (in fact, I cook very little in my camper). And I don't want to keep it around just to heat water (duh, I have a stove for that).
