Would like your opinion

Donít really know if this is the right section to post this so if a moderator thinks it should be moved, feel free to do so.
Now, my dilemma is that I plan on changing the tail lights on my Burro that Iím having restored (A small mod). I never have liked the Ďwedding cakeí tail lights that are on the Burro and other vintage trailers. My plan was to replace them with 1955 Ford tail lights. Then I looked at the 1956 Ford tail lights and they both look good. I canít put them to the Burro because itís still in paint and looking at them, I canít make up my mind. What do you all think? Iím open to all opinions.

I'm not familiar enough with Burro trailer to know if there's a separate red side running light near the rear or not. If not the light that gives the best side light (running light) is one I would choose.

Here's a pic of the rear end of the Burro. It has side marker lights.

Like the 55 myself, that's my vote. And use LED lights inside

I vote for the 55 and remove the little red middle insert and install a blue diamond insert, really makes it sharp looking at night. Like these

I vote for the 56 lights as the Burro does not have any chrome on the exterior and 55 lights would add chrome.

Also Gage, what are you doing about the upper rear marker lights? I also have a 13" Burro and replaced these with the bullet style Harley motorcycle turn signal lights. New replacement lights with LED bulbs. 2" diameter. Had to epoxy them on but they work and look great.

Rick.

Like Rick, I think the chrome is key - the amount of chrome is the biggest difference and whether or not you think chrome suits the trailer seems like a good deciding factor.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

Well as it stands right now, it looks like I'm going to go with the 55's (no blue dots, they weren't 'in' in the 70's & 80's. Even though DMV registered it as a '71, it's really an '81 (that'll be another story for around the camp fire). Now to get back to the tail lights. I won't know for sure until I can put them up against the trailer (it's still in paint, damn hotrod shop). Hopefully it'll be out next week at the latest. It would be nice if it was out this week so I can go down and take some measurements this coming weekend.

I was hoping that more Burro owners would have responded with their opinions, oh well. Thank you everyone who did respond.

I like the original Burro look myself...I found LED replacement 7" rounds. But hey, go for it, personalize! I like the '55s.

I think the important thing is to be SEEN. Most of us travel during daylight hours. While the choices are totally cool... does it matter what it looks like when parked? On the road, you want to be SEEN. I vote all LED 7" round. YMMV

7"dia. Tail Light. I think that's why I'm going to go with the 56's. They are 7". Besides the boss likes the 56's over the 55's. Won't have LED's (can't find LED adapters or anything I like). But will have Halogen bulbs which are pretty bright

You can run the 1156 or 1157 LED replacement bulbs. They will be as bright or brighter than the others. Another good trick I have seen done with old tail lights is to paint the inside a bright white or reflective silver.

I used '39 Lincoln zephyr led lights on mine, not sue how that would look with the rounded part you have.
