2014, Aug.15-17: Northeast Egg Beaters Hudson River Ramble

My brother has a virtual campground in his huge flat backyard with power hookups for RV's and often has motor-home gatherings there. He has offered his property free of charge for an egg rally anytime from July 4th through to the end of August.

His property is just north of Albany NY and is right on the Hudson River. They have a launch there very convenient for canoe/kayaks, and a good sized dock as well.

He and my sister-in-law have been retired for years, and have been RV'ers forever. They also have this thing about cooking meals for rallies, and have the set-up and experience to serve a lot of people.

My brother John, in particular, is very enthused that Gail and I graduated from tents to trailers, and is very supportive of us getting an egg. With any luck, we will have one by the time this rally comes around!

Please let me know who might be interested, and what weekend might be good. Sue, I know you're interested, what weekend would be good for you?

Can you specify what kind of set up, gravel or out in a field, I assume no restroom nor electric? Any google directions so one can see the location from the air? Is water available and dump facilities? It is nice of him to offer his location, how many can he handle. Last time someone in upstate New York offered free camping, 300,000 people showed up- I think it was called Woodstock in summer 69, remember it well !!

Basically, it is flat land (a lot of it) next to the area of the Hudson north of Albany that is lock-controlled. It is primarily shale that grass tries to grown on, but the Judge (my older brother John, who used to be a judge) does not let grow more than an inch. He has a number of RV hookups lining the north side of the property with multiple 30 and/or 50 amp service for the big motorhome rallies he and my sister-in-law Nancy put on there. I have to check with him and make sure the third weekend in August would work, but before he left this year he told me anytime between July 4th and September 1st. I think water is available but don't know for sure. There isn't a public restroom or dump station there, but I think there is a public dump station close by.

I will email him with these questions and get back to you. I know how to get there, but don't know the physical address. I'll get more info soon, but we're also gone tomorrow through Tuesday, so bare (bear?) with me.

Thanks!

Frank

That's the way I look at it too! I talk to John at least once a week, so it won't be long before I have more info.

Here's what the Judge just sent me via email:

"Frank, Third weekend in August is a lock, 2014. A public rest room and Shower are available at house down stairs. Public water is available. A dump station is up road 2 miles at County Waste and is FREE. Tents could be up, food is cooked at cost or potluck, we provide grills and propane free. Guided pontoon boat rides available, on the pool, thru locks etc, kayaks welcome. Fireworks are possible @$600.00 per event cost.
Frank you would handle the registration, and you and Gail could cook too. We could do a steak roast at about $5.00 each on Saturday night. Cook your own, or/ we, you, cook Frank, We could make available a steak roast, mashed potatoes, burnt onion gravy, green beans and an ice cream social for desert.
Everything and anything is possible incl. free rent"

How's that for starters?

Anytime, the Judge has put me in charge!

Let me get a few more details in place, probably next week. We're heading out for a long weekend and will get back at it soon.

I don't have his address handy, but if you google "us rt 4 halfmoon ny" then go to Maps, that will get you there for now.

Sounds wonderful, Frank. And the 3rd weekend of August is good for us. If I remember correctly you said your brother lives in Halfmoon. That's about 6 miles from where I'm sitting as the crow flies.

And Jim - if you join us, you can 1) Prove to the skeptics that you are a real person, and 2) Treat Noellia to unlimited Stewarts ice cream as there is a Stewarts pretty much on every other corner around here. Or better yet, you can visit the plant in Saratoga.

Speaking of Saratoga and August.........
