Rallies and Caravan?

Hi Folks. I really really really want to come to this event, as it combines pretty much everything I love. Unfortunately it hits the same weekend as the bluegrass festival my family has hosted for the last 44 years just up the road in Lexington. I AM however, hosting an egg rally in FL the weekend before, and planning to offer a caravan to KY for the second weekend in June. So if you are coming to Eggs a la Bourbon, and would be interested in a fun group to travel north with (from North Florida or along the way), please come join us on our Facebook page for Jam 'n Eggs II - Tropical Nights edition so we can get this discussion started. I think it would be a ball to plan a couple of cool stops on the way to KY. https://www.facebook.com/events/710573035774433

Spring is just around the corner and I'm starting to get excited. So Anita and I went in to Bardstown yesterday and spent the afternoon checking on things. Not able to get a lot done because of the holiday, But with that aside it look like there are 8 sites left on the campground. If anybody has any questions just ask and I will do my best to get them answered.

Safe travels!!

Based on my map from last year, some of those open sites are the steep ones that require some ingenuity for parking! With a bit of effort, everything will work. Only about 4 and a half months to go!

Hi Kevin - this is our first time in this park and would like to know which sites are steep as you mentioned and what is necessary to navigate them. Any details would be appreciated. Thank you.

The sites I felt were pretty steep for leveling a small trailer (13-16') were 15, 20, 25, 27, and 29. Site 20 could be handled with the smallest trailer by putting it in sideways and only leveling one tire on the downward side. Someone also used site 25 last year but with a lot of blocks under the tongue jack.

Right now when I check the reservation site at My Old Kentucky Home State Park, it shows these spots still available for June 9-11 (Fri.-Sun.): 20, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 36, 38, and 39. The last one, 39, is oriented two ways: you can back in (pretty steep downward to the rear of the trailer) or pull-through. I would use the pull-through part!

Obviously from what is left available, I would suggest you try 31,33, 36, or 39 first. Site 38 is a little more sloped but not terrible. It is also right by the bathrooms/showers. Don't be frightened by the descriptions for these sites on the reservation site. They seem to describe everything as severe! Just bring leveling wood blocks or other levelers to get things set up right. There will be folks who will be glad to help, too. These campers are a great group!

Hope this helps! Don't wait too long or the sites will be gone. From what is left, it looks like returning campers are avoiding those steep sites, too.

Kevin

Thank you Kevin. We had actually already blindly reserved site #32 which from your description sounds like it is in the ok part. Do you agree? Are the water and electric hook ups close or at a distance, maybe requiring a longer water hose? Any other suggestions? Thank you for your help!

Yes, 32 should be a good choice. The water and electric hook-ups are between sites 32 and 33 and toward the back of the site. There is a double faucet, I believe, but it doesn't hurt to bring a water splitter. For the hose, you might not need more than 30', but I'd always carry an extra hose or a longer single hose (50'). For electric, your cord will be on the far side from the power post, too, so you might need a heavy duty extension cord of about 25' (assuming your attached cord/plug is about 15'). I don't know if you're using 20 or 30 amp power, but these take different plugs. Assuming your trailer has a 30 amp plug/cord, you either need a 30 amp extension cord or power plug adapters for both ends of the extension.

Sorry for too much detail! I just don't know what you are used to carrying and using.

Hi All,

Laura and I were in Site 36 last year. It sloped down from front to back, so we had to lower the electric jack close to the ground and use four 2 X 6 blocks under the rear stabilizers. There was not room to lower the front stabilizers. No big deal. It was all workable, requiring only a little head scratching. Our neighbor needed to borrow our 30 amp extension cord. No big deal. I think a 30 amp extension and extra freshwater hose would be nice just in case.

Nice little park. GREAT rally!

See ya,

Dean

Jim hope this finds you well. Could you be a little more specific on your question such as is it for extra space or more people on the same site and I will contact the campground and ask. I don't live far from it so I can drive down there early next week and check on any questions?

Rally events

Are there going to be rally events, nightly campfires? , pot luck?, or anything else. Will schedule be posted as time gets closer? Really looking forward to this rally. After we leave here we will be Harding to the Lake Michigan area, (Benton Harbor) homestead, then on to Flint. Any camping sections greatly appreciated.
