2018, Oct. 4-6: Fall NOG - Northern Oregon Gathering

October 4-6, 2018 South Beach State Park

The traveling road show is once again on the move! The group decided to try South Beach State Park, just south of Newport, OR for Fall NOG 2018. Once again, a SP where we've never held a NOG.

Kathie (Dave&Kathie) and I took a reconnaissance trip on Wed. Jan 3rd to scope it out. What a great park! It reminds me a bit of Nehalem Bay State Park. Too, I was able to reserve the large meeting yurt for Fri/Sat nights. No folding tables or (not so) EZ-Ups needed for the group activities and lots of vehicle parking nearby. SWOON!!

We'll start reserving in D Loop and move UP the alphabet as needed. E, F, G and H will be closed by then by the park system for camping. IF you want a Yurt, there's some nice ones on the east side of C Loop (some are pet friendly). There's also a kid's play structure in C loop. IF you have a child and don't want to go to the beach to play in the sand, there's a big sand pit behind site D37, in that site. How cool is that?

This is definitely a bike-friendly park. You can ride from the park, through the day use area and then all the way to the South Jetty in Newport, along the beach and all on asphalt.

Be sure to checkout everything the Oregon State Park system has to say about the park. Find the information here including reservation information: South Beach State Park - Oregon State Parks and Recreation

The brochure here will tell you site driveway length (South Beach park information, general map with trails and campground map with site numbers): Photos, Videos, and Brochures - South Beach State Park - Oregon State Parks and Recreation

AND, check out Campsite photos for a picture of the site you want: https://www.campsitephotos.com/campg...tate-park-d001

As usual I'll keep a park map updated and a list of names going for those that have made reservations at the CasitaForum. Information here: https://www.casitaforum.com/invboard...all-gathering/.

Be sure to let us know if you're newbies to egg gatherings and everyone start planning/making your name tags Post away!

I believe it is possible to bicycle, or walk to the crabbing dock and Rogue brewery which are on the east side of the highway. There is also a frisbee golf course between the campsites and the beach.

I usually stay there at least one night a year on my way traveling along the coast. In November, there seem to be more hosts than campers and it is very welcoming. Early October might have more campers, but that shouldn't be a problem.

I am excited about this! Nice large park kept clean and orderly.Maybe my trailer will be done by then (I have to "take it to Reno" when the weather clears this Spring)....but I lived in Newport for many years (just across the bridge). Indeed, there are great trails for hiking or running, endless flat beach, a jetty for fishing & crabbing, not one but TWO Rogues (one on each side of the bridge), and a GREAT cycling road, also across the bridge and around the north bank of the Yaquina ( pronounced YAH QUINN NAH) Bay and River. You can drive over and park in a free parking area that eliminates having to ride across the bridge and also the hills. You can ride all the way to Toledo (arts and antiques center) for a little over a 20 mile round trip, or out and back as far as you wish, mostly flat, great wide paved shoulder (longer scenic rides out of Toledo for the serious cyclist). Birdwatching, yes, lots of seabirds, herons, Bald Eagles. Newport is a great place with lots to do including art galleries, performing arts center, lighthouses (one at each end).... the big Aquarium is in South Beach, and also the Oregon State University's Marine Science Center, and NOAA headquarters, not very far from the campground, and can be reached by walking the trails ( both paved and unpaved)and jetty road if not wanting to drive. Beer on the way back at Rogue...
I'll drive down ( I had to relocate to the Valley 2 hours away recently to care for my mom), just to see all the campers, even if mine isn't finished.
Woo Hoo.

We Are All Set

We are signed up for space C07. It will be my husband Rob and myself in our 13' 81 Burro. I am looking forward to the NOG as we where not able to attend last year. My restoration wasn't completed in time. Actually I am still working on it but I should be done in time for the spring camp out.

Got all excited about finally going to one. Checked the park website, picked a space not yet reserved and then came to a horrific revelation. It’s the weekend of the PORTLAND Marathon meaning I’ll be stuck at work . . . <sigh . . . . >

Cough, cough, gag, choke... I'm sick. (Just make sure the crashing waves aren't heard in the background)

Sorry you'll miss it Kevin!

I would need to be somewhere between ‘light duty’ and ‘totally incapacitated’ and have a doctors note to prove it.

Carolyn, I don't keep track of when people arrive or how long they stay. Since the NOG doesn't have scheduled workshops, etc. and just get together as a group on Friday and Saturday nights, it's wide open for how long you wish to camp at the venue. For instance, I'll be arriving on Wed. Oct. 3 and leaving Sun. Oct. 7.

Welcome all you newbies! Looking forward to a fun time. We also know of two couples who will be coming without trailers to look around. Donna has been traveling the USA and plans to be back soon. I know she will be posting the activites then so stay tuned.

Looking forward to a fun campout!
