We will not be able to attend, canceled our site reservation today. If anyone is looking for a campsite we had site 078 next to the creek reserved from 10/9 to 10/13, it's now available.

Tip for travelers coming to the area: your GPS will likely route you over the mountains past Maggie Valley via US19. If you are troubled by a steep, windy mountain road, you might want to bypass going through Maggie and instead, going through Waynesville. Heard a lot of griping about that road at the rally.

If you want a good test of your tow vehicle, then the route through Maggie is a good one! You will know your brakes and tow rating very well by the time you reach the campground.

The route from Waynesville is via Highway 74, then highway 441. It's longer in distance.

Just one local guy's opinion. We have tow vehicle to spare, so the route through Maggie is my choice, more scenic too.

If for some reason your GPS routes you through Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, that area is a traffic nightmare.

That time of year is prime time here in the mountains. Extend your stay to include weekdays and spend time on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will likely see plenty of foliage changing colors. Waynesville typically has an art festival on Saturday that weekend. Another good side trip. To motorcyclists, the Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley is outstanding.

Thanks Bill, that was nice of you to provide the heads up on alternative routes. We live a half a mile south of US 30. For several years people coming to visit were routed north instead of south at our corner. I learned to warn my guests ahead of time rather than have them lost on the gravel. Thanks again

The cooler temperatures the last couple of days has had me thinking about the Fall season; especially spending time in one of my favorite places - the Great Smokey Mountains. With that thought I started thinking about posting an official agenda for our rally, keeping in mind to include Free-time. Time to hike, fish and explore the many things and events in Cherokee and the neighboring communities. Maybe take a train ride out of Bryson City to veiw the changing leaf colors or try your luck at the casino in hope of winning a huge jack pot. Some just might want to find a nice shade tree to pull their chair under while they enjoy a cold beverage, by themselves or in the company of others. No matter what your plan is we just want you to relax and enjoy the food, fellowship, and adventures, building relationships and memories that will last for years to come.

The 50/50 drawing last year was a huge success. It allowed us to recover our out of pocket expenses and offered each participant a game of chance to win a sizable purse of money. This year we will change to having three daily drawings, one each for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. The idea is to have 3 lucky winners instead of one. The drawings will take place each evening at or around 7:30 pm. Best of luck to all participants!

Thursday October 10th will be the official start of the rally. Be sure to stop by the Host site #81 to register and pick up your name tags upon arrival. Then at 6 PM we will gather for the official meet and greet get together. Rhonda & I will once again provide a large pot of soup for all to enjoy. Please feel free to bring crackers, bread, desserts, and side dishes to share along with the beverage of your choice to make this an enjoyable event. Friday October 11, relax and enjoy your day anyway you desire. Then at 6 PM come and gather around a fire pit for a group cook out. Simply bring your hot dogs, sausages, burgers or food of your choice to enjoy in fellowship with others. Don't forget your buns and condiments along with the beverage of your choice. We always seem to run a little short on roasting sticks, so if you have your own it would be great if you could bring them along. Saturday October 12, A time of Show & Tell / 10 AM to 2 PM. A time to Crack them Eggs open and share with others your decorating skills and modifications. After this take a break and enjoy your afternoon. At 6 PM we will gather for our official Pot Luck Dinner followed by fellowship around the camp fire. Can't wait to see you; safe travels to all!

Yes Bill, 91 degrees yesterday was a little too warm for this time of year; today will feel more like Fall at 72 degrees!

My wife Rita and i will be attending the rally. We have a site reserved. We will have our dog Jake along with us. Our rig is a 2013

Hi George
Site 924A. Arriving on Wednesday and Departing on Sunday. Headed to Davidson River and then Davy Crockett after your rally.
One of the most fantastic displays of fall color I’ve ever witnessed was in Oak Ridge about October 15 one year. Hoping for a repeat.

One nice thing about the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway is the dramatic variation in elevation. So if the colors aren't right at one elevation, just head up or down and you will see a lot of color.

Hi Bill
A few years ago we were at Townsend and the dogwood bloom was about done. We drove up to Clingman’s Dome and as we gained elevation the bloom got better and better then declined because we were “too early”. Up at the Dome it was sleeting and there were several grouse out feeding where the ground was turning white.
