Do we sign up somewhere or just get a site at the causeway?

The originator of this rally is Paul Braun who lives in Wisconsin. He typically sets the “Formal” dates on this rally which Adrian (Emers) correctly posted as camping nights of Thursday, Friday and Saturday September 24, 25 and 26. Many people leave on Sunday and a fair number stay yet on Sunday night or even longer. The loop with site Numbers from about 99 though 128 or so has been the traditional loop we’ve used . However last fall supersaturated soil and two impressive 2 inch rain events left a lot of standing water in this loop. Which kind of put a damper on things ( Poor pun intended). That said, there was discussion on moving the rally to the loop which did not “flood” for next year. This is the big loop to the North of the traditional sites. Whether or not Paul has decided on this move for sure, I don’t know. It certainly seems prudent to me and I’d be all for it. If you want to get over on the Escape forum and PM “ fudge brownie” perhaps Paul can shed some sunshine on his plans. A fair number of folks also arrive a day or two early. My charming bride and my slightly crude and not so charming self will again be hosting a little get together where everybody is invited on Wednesday evening at our site. Escapes and Canapés was fun last year. Next year I will hand out a list of possible day trips for those who prefer to explore and just not vegitate in the campground like I do.
Hope this helps

I will be seeking a waterfront site with electricity if at all possible and plan to attend a couple days early. Thanks - B

Our first rally

This will be our first rally with our new 2020 Casita Spirit Standard.

Would like to book our site soon.

Have they decided on a group location yet so I can book accordingly?

Mississippi River Rendezvous.

We’re waiting for a response from Fudge Brownie (Paul Braun). The dates are shown above. However, this is Corps of Engineers facility “Thompson Causeway” and there is a 6 month ahead of event opening for the window. That means the opening will be later this month but is coming up. We’ve had veterans and rookies, Scamps, Casitas, Bolers, Escapes, Tenters in the Fiberglass market etc. There’s quite a bit to do in the area or you can just relax in the shade. Paul rents the shelter for Thursday thru Saturday. It has plenty of room for the potluck or other mixers and has a good fireplace. Paul will accept a small donation which defrays the cost of the shelter and we have historically been able to negotiate a pretty good deal on firewood. Otherwise there’s no other cost besides your camping fee. No daily entry etc. Your senior park pass from the US Government is good for Half price camping. There are two good grocery stores just across the river in Clinton, Iowa. Lots of shorebirds, a classic Fish market on the road to Fulton. Tattoo artist at Poopy’s near Savannah, hey what else could anyone need. Hope this helps.

I just noticed that Paul Braun posted info about this rally in the Escape Forum (here).

I see that the official rally has been cancelled for 2020 now (per the July 10 notice on the Escape Forum). Cindy and I are planning to keep our reservation, though, for now for Sept. 24-27.

I had not heard about anything - we have our reservation still and plan on keeping it as of this time. Hopefully we will get to see some fiberglass campers there still. We were really looking forward to seeing Corky and Darlene too!

We are holding on to our reservations at Thomson Causeway only because I do not want to admit defeat BUT in all honesty I think it’s all over but the crying / shouting
I have a feeling that by September things are going to be far worse than we can imagine and staying home will be our only choice . Hope I’m wrong !!

WE will have to see come Sept. if the park is open at that time. As years past that time of year we have not seen the park full. So come Sept. we will see.
