April 12-16th Aqua Caliente County Park Gathering

When some of us were @ Lake Casitas in October and recently in Quartzsite, AZ, we discussed a spring gathering in So. Calif.

Well here it is:
AQUA CALIENTE SPRINGS, SAN DIEGO COUNTY PARK
APRIL 12-16TH (Thurs-Mon) any or all nights
They have partial (elec & water) hook-ups for $24.00 with a $1.00 per nite pet fee.

Please access the website at:
san-diego-Camping-agua_caliente
The home page has 6 boxes in the middle of the page, when you click "on-line reservations" that will bring up the lay-out of the campground. We will be in area 1 , there are also sites available in area 2 if area 1 fills. When you input your dates to arrive & depart it brings up what sites are available then. You can click on each individual site and it will bring up a picture and description of the site, all have table and fire pit. The main attraction to this park are the hot mineral pools so bring your suits and soak away your aches and pains.

If you are planning on joining us, please post your site # and days you are attending. We also encourage all to watch the video of the talk with the ranger. It gives a good overall picture of the campgrounds and the pools. We would also recommend bringing hiking boots if you are into exploring the surroundings. Cameras are always a good idea as we may have some beautiful wildflowers and hopefully good sunrises and sunsets. Please bringing plenty of firewood and be sure to have all your groceries because there is no shopping near by.

On Saturday evening we would like to have a communal hot dog roast. For those who want to join us bring your sticks, hot dogs, buns for yourself, chairs, and a dessert to share to Rosemary and Steve's site #9 (time to be announced later). We will provide plates, utensils, napkins, condiments and side dishes. B.Y.O.B.

In the spring, in the desert, we must always be prepared for possible wind and rain showers.

Looking forward to enjoying the desert with you all.

Co planners
Rosemary and Steve
Lizbeth and Eric

For those have never been to this park be forewarned your GPS may tell you that you have arrived when you are in fact about a couple of miles from the entrance and it will look like you are in the middle of nothing but desert. If you see the airport, the entrance to the park is right across from it.

I should add when I say airport I mean a small plane airstrip in the middle of the desert with the only a wind sock on it!!! Dont be looking for big planes and hangers.

32 degrees 56 minutes 57.5 seconds North
116 degrees 18 minutes 17.0 seconds West

This should be the GPS coordinates for the middle of Campground Area 1.

I would have to pay my income taxes early to make this gathering, god forbid!
Last minute Russ

Ok, we reserved site 44 checking in Fri, and departing Sunday. We look forward to meeting y'all. I have passed through this campground on day trips, but have not had time to stay and camp.

I got this from someone who has been there recently:
Quote:
(T)here are people boon-docking who come in to use the pool and showers and they park in the middle little open area (of campground area 1) - so a fair bit of traffic coming and going
While area 1 is the closest to the pools...
Quote:
...the best sites in the place are the #98 to #104 area - amazing views and nice and big

I want to come but DH read something about high winds and blowing sand in the area and is concerned about the paint on our new-to-us Compact II. Can someone who has camped there confirm the safety (sanctity really ) of his new paint?
