Another random question: I read somewhere that BLM will only permit completely self contained units to camp on their land. Our unit has a 12 gallon external grey water tank and a port-a-potty. Apparently they do not consider this set-up to be "completely self contained" Any thoughts??

Gray water and port-a-potty can be dumped in town at the RV dump station for just a couple of dollars. You can also get fresh water there.

We have the same type of set-up, and have not had any problems from anyone for 2 years now.:

Update on the Gathering

This time of year, Quartzsite is the land of the swap meet. So, we're going to have one of our own.

It will be held Saturday morning, February 10th from about 9AM to noon. This is to be for camping and RV related items only. Please no broken washing machines or 1952 Dodge bumpers. There will be an envelope attached to each item with the persons name and how much they want for the item. If you want to purchase the item, put your money in the envelope and drop it in a box provided. If your item sells, you can then pick up your envelope(s). At the end of the swap meet, please pick up your unsold items.

Second activity we are adding is a presentation on solar for our little trailers. Bob Nichols from CEA Solar will be putting this on at about 11AM on the 10th. This will be a good chance to get your questions answered about solar.

Soup Thing will be held in the afternoon (time to be determined). Remember to bring a can of soup (Not Cream Style).

A big thanks to Arizona Eileen for suggesting these events and making the arrangements.

See you all there.

George and Betty

You really dont need to worry about it. It all very causal camping on BLM lands and your not likely to be even asked about your tanks. Nothing like parking on public lands up here ;-) Or at least that was my experience last year. The big thing is not to dump anything out on the ground.
Have fun!

Cool Tank dumping & pregathering

Just twelve miles west of Quartzsite, there is a rest stop just past the Quiznos where we emptied our porta potti two years ago.

Nothing on the pregathering yet? Just come to Buckskin Mountain in the preceeding week. Reservations would be a good idea, but there were empty spots last year. Plus there are other parks nearby.

Buckskin Mountain State Park is located aprox 50 to 60 miles north of Quartzsite and about 30 miles south of Lake Havasu City on Hwy 95. Very nice campground right next to the Colorado River. You can Google AZ State parks. Their website will get you to Buckskin where you can see a picture of each site and make reservations.

Cool Will be there

Mary & Roger plan to be there, although not overnight unless the weather is mild. Waking up to 42 degrees inside Homelet is not our idea of fun!

Sorry we missed Quartzsite last year, but I broke a tooth while at Buckskin Mountain and thought it best to head home.

Just lived through our first dust storm in Yuma last night.

The Casita is in getting an axle lift and should be ready for our imminent departure.

Nope, no gathering at Buckskin this year. I couldn't get the time off work to host the event.

If you're planning to just show up at Buckskin, keep in mind that this is snowbird season and many of the spots are filled by those with reservations. However, if you get there at 8 am, the rangers can tell you who'll be leaving that day so you can take over their spot -- if it isn't already reserved.

As George mentioned, there's a place right in Quartzsite called RV Pit Stop. They have everything...water, air, propane, and sewer dumps.

Our Dome Rock Swap Meet will be at 9 am on Saturday, Feb 9th. Look for the adjoined 10'x20' tents.

@Roger, I have a little BlackCat propane heater you're welcome to borrow at Dome Rock to keep you warm. I just wouldn't recommend running it during the night, but it'll certainly take the chill off other times.

Eileen

Just back from AZ trip, made Quartzsite 1/21,22,23 we stayed in Yuma & commuted then on to Kingman. So sorry going to miss the "egg" gathering & swap meet - need parts but got a few things. We were in our 32' 5th wheel, (41) gallons of diesel from Kingman back to LA. The swap meet was smaller this year, lots of vendors missing, added 2cents to sales tax for city sewer bringing tax to 10.5% +/-. Have fun. E
