Beer Can Chicken aka Claymore Chicken

I'm sure all you long time campers have heard about or tried the Beer Can Chicken Recipes. Well we tried one after hearing about how to do it and even found a website that offered a specially made rack to not only hold the beer can but support the chicken in a stable position on the grill. Was so intrigued with this new gadget I ordered one and tried it out late this fall. The photo shows our chicken in the upright position on our small charcoal grill during the start of the cooking cycle. I was standing watching very carefully when I realized that I had forgotten something and that was to open the beer can first, but too late. She started a lift off like an Atlas Rocket and at a couple of feet off the grill-----KBOOM!
There were chicken parts on the roof and dangling from our deck umbrella and no sign of the grill. After pondering what had happened, we dousted the remaining charcoal embers and headed for McDonalds and a couple of chicken McNuggets. My advice---read the directions carefully or you'll wind up with Claymore Chicken like I did. Merry Christmas to all and Good Cooking. Ah, Nevin

My daughter did the same thing (well, without the chicken) ... when she tried to heat up a can of canned cherries in a pan of hot water on the stove. She forgot to take the top of the can ... and when it blew, blew cherries and juice all over the kitchen ceiling.
