Michael,

As you get off HWY. 101 South, instead of heading toward Lopez Lake, turn right on Grand Ave. Vic's is about 1/2 mile down on your left.

Jim- gotta agree, Vic's is an awesome burger! Sylvester's is also good. A little pricey, but you usually get what you pay for.

There is always the standby, In N Out over in Atascadero. They have such a beast called a "4x4 animal", where they double their Double Double. Talk about an artery clogger?

We have a cool little coffee shop here in Morro Bay named "Margie's" and I am partial to anything they serve up. Their portions are huge and their Mushroom Burger makes me salivate at any hour.

mouth watering

found a 'too good to be true but is burger joint' - it's called the Silver Bullet, yup that's right, in a converted 71 airstream. Both the the fries and the burgers are homemade, so is the gravy.They also do a mean poutine( pronounced poo-tin ) for those of you who are saying huh??? it's a french Canadian thing- great fries with melted cheese on top, smothered in gravy. the only problem is they're only open from May to September, too cold in the winter. If you're ever in Sudbury Ontario you're missing something if you don't try it out

If you like flavor, this is for you.

Spicy Burger yum...

1 1/3 pounds ground sirloin or ground turkey breast
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon (a palmful) ground cumin
1 tablespoon, (a palmful) dark chili powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper sauce
1 teaspoon (1/3 palmful) coarse salt
1 tablespoon (1 turn around the pan) vegetable oil

Makes 4 servings

Mt. Rainier Burger

We recently took a short vacation to the Seattle, Washington area. I made it a point to get to Mt. Rainier one day for the spectacular views not available here in good old Iowa.

Anyway after a day in the park we were quite hungry. We wanted a locally owned restaurant with great food. We stopped at the Copper Creek Restaurant (or something like that). I ordered this burger there that was one of the best I've had. The bun was homemade and wonderful. The kicker to this burger was that it had a fried egg laid on top of the meet. Gave it a very unique flavor and texture.

If you're in that area I'd suggest stopping in for one

Burgers

I recently tried turkey burgers after seeing them cooked on a TV food show. They were out of this world and good for you too. I like them best on the grill as the smokey flavor is the perfect finish. The basic recipe is:

Ground Turkey ( I like the mixed kind but all white is good too )
1 small onion (I use pearl/boiler or green onions minced fine)
1 rib of celery (finely minced)
1 lg clove garlic (crushed and minced fine)
green/red/jalapeno pepper (diced very small)
Raw apple or raw carrot (very finely shredded)
Finely minced cilantro, thyme, parsley, rosemary or other herbs

Mix the ground meat with as much of each ingredient as you prefer. The apple and veggies add flavor but are more for the moisture. Form into patties ( I create a hole in the center so that the patty cooks all the way through). Spray each patty with Pam and grill or pan fry until cooked through - but don't overdo as they will dry out.
Serve on toasted whole wheat buns and you have a fabulous low fat healthy burger. A good topping is a cranberry mayo made by mixing cranberry sauce into mayo. Lip smacking good but adds back the fat that you got rid of by using turkey!!

My family likes these better than beef burgers anymore. Try 'em.

The turkey burger looks good for leftovers after turkeyday. :conf course you were using raw to start. well, I'll think of something. guess I'll just have to have turkey before then. :wak (I'm getting hungry) Thanks, Debbie.
