"Campfire Fudge"

No, you don't cook it over the camp fire... I wondered that myself when I first heard of it! But you can easily make it while sitting around the camp fire. Thanks to Karen and Roy Munzel of Michigan for sharing this recipe; I believe Karen herself came up with the recipe. It only takes 5 minutes or so to make!

To a gallon ziplock bag, add:
  • 3.5 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2/3 cup to 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa (Karen says "a heaping half-cup")
  • 1 small jar marshmallow cream (perhaps 6 oz. or thereabouts?)
  • (optional): your choice of any nuts, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or whatever you like

Place all ingredients inside ziplock bag and zip closed. Knead the bag (feel free to pass around to all at the camp fire for turns) until ingredients look mixed; usually that's when it no longer sticks to the sides of the bag. Dump onto a plate, flatten, carve into chunks, and eat.

I am looking forward to making this with the grandkids one day soon.

TO make it easier you could premix the dry ingredients in the bag. I like it; I want to try that at our next campout.

Not waiting for a cmpfire to try this one. I am going to get the ingredients together and let my grandson go at it when he comes today.

I may even let him add some nuts near the end of the squishing. Thanks. Terry R.

Terry, there is a boy scout armpit method that has a single serving recipe.

1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 T butter
2 tsp. cream cheese
Dash vanilla
2 tsp. cocoa

Put in sandwich bag, squeeze out air, squish till well mixed and creamy.

The Gril Scout Pass Around Fudge goes like this. Mix all in gallon bag, use a second bag. Pass around on the road trip. flatten and put in cooler. Ready when you reach your destination.

1/2 cup cocoa
1 stick margarine
3 oz cream cheese
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

In Sept at Eggfest Duluth I am going to make up one of Mike's with the marshmallow cream and one with the cream cheese. I really think we need to do a taste comparison.

And surely the fresh air when you're out camping neutralizes the calories, right?

Sounds wonderful!

Sharon, the fresh air seemed to work for me! I had to dig out the next-size-smaller jeans toward the end of the trip because the others were suddenly so baggy on me. My vacations have plenty of trail walking and other exercise, and I eat more but my waist line shrinks.

Wish it would stay that way after I return home, though. The 112 degree days tend to discourage me from outdoor activities.

Mike, the heat you've been having there is unbelievable. Hoping you get rain and cooler weather soon.

It's not nearly that hot here, but I have been hibernating inside in the A/C... and I think that must enhance the caloric content of food!
