corn on the cob

Last summer somebody told us a quick & easy way to cook and husk it. Seems like it involved the microwave for cooking but don't remember any details. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. If I could remember who told us about this I could ask but don't remember that either. I have to say that my forgetter works very well.

I cook it in the husk in the microwave. Wrap it in plastic wrap, nuke for a few minutes, then unhusk. (You do have to be careful handling it when it is hot.) You may be able to omit the plastic wrap as the husk essentially serves the same purpose but use it if the husk seems dry.

We have nuked corn on the cob with decent results. i much prefer to do it on the BBQ or a fire after soaking in water for a bit.

Here is a method for the microwave that is supposed to remove all the silk easily. I never tried it though.

For a big BBQ husk the cobs take a large cooler, place corn inside, boil water to cover corn, pour over cobs, place lid on and in 20 min you will have a large feast.

If you cut the end off before putting it into the microwave, it is much easier to handle. We cut the end off, put in the microwave, for 3 to 4 minutes/ear. Pull it out, take hold of the husk end and squeeze out a hairless ear of delicious hot corn.

I've done the microwave technique described above. It works, but I think soaked & grilled tastes better. Of course that might be because I don't have a microwave in my trailer, but I still feel cooking in a microwave somehow manages to kill the taste of most vegetables...

Soaked and grilled is better, but if you don't want to deal with the water when camping, this is great.

Small Joys

Ginny and I are getting ready to leave Florida and were talking about the small joys of Florida, one being the array of fresh fruits and vegetables. I'm amazed how good fresh picked broccoli tastes.

We arrived at the store to find a huge container of fresh corn in a box at the entrance, $2 for a half dozen, truly young with small sweet kernels.
