In Afrikaans braai means "roast." Is it also a Dutch word?

Yes and no ;)
In Dutch the verb is 'braden'. There is no simular noun.
Braden is always with butter or oil.
A Dutch equivalent can be 'braadschotel'.
With some effort we can understand 'Afrikaans' v.v.
