Being a creative person, I really like to have the ingredients on hand and then just play with the recipes. So, the Dutch Oven Killer, Cherry and Chocolate version was created!
1.5 cans of cherry pie filling
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1.25 cups of water
Place pie filling in the bottom of a #10 Dutch Oven
Sprinkle the cake mix over the top of this
Pour the water onto the top of the cake mix. I used a fork to "pat" the cake mix to eliminate any bubbles.
Sprinkle a handful of walnuts over this.
I used 11-12 briquettes on the top and the bottom of the Dutch Oven and baked for about 45-50 minutes...until the cake looked dry and started to pull from the edges.
This was chocolatey, a bit fudge-like, and soooooooooo good!
We had a bit of cool whip on top of the warm dessert. Ice cream would be great, vanilla, the best.
Dutch Oven Killer I was made was with apples and cherry and used marshmallows and nuts on the top of that white cake mix.
I think marshmallows then the nuts added at the last few minutes on the chocolate version would make a nice topping, too.
Enjoy and let me know how you like it!
