Making hummus without a food processor

At home we frequently make hummus in a food processor. How do people make hummus in camp?
With a potato masher?
With a potato ricer?
With a food mill?
With a mortar and pestle or a molcajete?
With a battery powered blender?

I cook and dehydrate the chick peas. Then I grind the beans into a powder and mix the other ingredients in, along with a little hot water to the right consistency.

REI sells a packaged version you only need to add liquids to. :-)

We dehydrate it all the time too. It rehydrates really well, and very quickly compared to other items.

I'm so glad you asked this question as we eat hummus at home regularly and just do without when camping. Here is a link to a recipe for Backcountry Hummus. Enjoy!Backcountry Cooking: Dehydrated Hummus

Then, again, you might want to use a hand-cranked blender! GSI Outdoors Vortex Hand Blender : Amazon.com : Kitchen & Dining
