Glad it worked John..... I use that same procedure to email myself so that i can look at the link more thoroughly when i get a chance and then decide if i want to save it to favorite places.

We make it in a non-stick frying pan on top of the stove in the camper. Just a little butter on each side of the bread. We have the 4 slice wire rack, which you can find in the sporting goods dept at Wal-Mart but I like the pan better.

After 6 years my Ozark Trails(Walmart), less that $2, very rusty, made in Canada!, 4 slice wire toaster still works well. Raz

The Coleman wire gadget works great, too.

Cheers John - missing my toast!
We have a single slice 12V toaster, don't use it much but it's cute and it works!

The other picture is the typical device to which you refer, they have been making them for nearly a century so they can't be all bad

That 12v toaster is cute.
I bought the 4-slice model at Wal Mart the other day. It cost a whole $2.xx, I can't remember the exact cents. So I should be good to go for toast this winter trip. We leave in 6 days, 17 hrs, and 9 min. but who's counting!

cheers john

I agree. That's how we make toast and it's the best. We don't butter the bread, though. We just stick the end of a stick of real butter onto the hot grill. Then mop it up with the bread slice and wait for it to brown. Usually 30-45 seconds. Then make another puddle of butter, flip the slice over and repeat the procedure. I usually do 4 slices at a time on the griddle of my Coleman Roadtrip grill.

I use this one. works fast and toasts evenly. tough to make it balance on the burner though but worth the effort.

In a real pinch when I can't find my wire toaster, I have used a two prong meat fork. Just stick it and toast it. Have even used small hot dog fork. Terry R.

We use BOTH the GSI and the camp-a-toaster because my wife is gluten free and I'm not and we have to have separate toasters for health reasons.

They both work quite well.

The camp-a-toaster does NOT straddle 2 burners, but instead you put it in the center of the burner. The heat is conducted up into both parts of it. It does a pretty good job. It is also (or at least mine is) USA made. It does not fold but really, it is not much bigger than 2 slices of bread and I have never had storage issues. (I also carry an electric toaster , or toasters, when we are going places with electric hookups. As fun as the stovetop stuff can be nothing beats simply plugging it in and using it )

I really like to fry the bread in the frying pan with some margarine though

I had one of those in the past and maybe it was a little nicer (in terms of not rusting and not needing to be folded to stow efficiently), but I really like the ability to make four slices. If I were only ever going to make two slices I might look for one of the other ones again.

One note is that when I am only toasting two slices, I wrap a patch of tinfoil over the space for the other two slices. This gets the two toasted a lot faster.

Raya

Edited to add: Went looking for one like my old non-folding 2-slicer and found this folding (what looks like a) 2-slicer from Primus. It's stainless which would be preferable to me to the Coghlan's one, which gets quite rusty.

Amazon.com: Primus Toaster: Sports & Outdoors

Here is one more like my old 2-slicer (although mine did not have a handle sticking out to get in the way for storage; otoh that would not get hot when toasting maybe, which would be a bonus). This one is also stainless:

Amazon.com: Stove Top Toaster S.S. Stove Top Toaster: Sports & Outdoors

Now this one I have never seen before:

Home

I like the look of it, and the home-invented-mom-and-pop-ness of it, but it doesn't look super space efficient (does not show it folding at all). At 5" x 9", I'm not sure if it is supposed to straddle two burners (?)

And here is one more, something like the above but a bit smaller and folds flat (the above one may fold, I'm not sure).

Amazon.com: Gsi Stainless Radiant Toaster: Sports & Outdoors

Now I'm hungry for toast!

Bought a Coughlands about 30 years ago for around a $1.00 . It is now worn and no longer shiny but makes pretty good toast using a Coleman stove . I know it's old cause if my memory serves me right it was made in Canada

I just make it in a frying pan. Then, you can cook your eggs in the same pan.
