Toast??

Does anyone make toast using some sort of gadget on top of their propane stove? Does it work well?

Cheers John - missing my toast!

Back in the tenting days, my folks had one like this that was used over the Coleman stove... I remember it working well: Coleman Co 2000000260 Camp Stove Toaster#

hi john----we don 't have hydro when we camp up at our lot on the river---so we always use our camp stove toaster...got it for less than $4 at walmart. have used the same style for many years, during those years when we tented.....they work excellently.
besides this, we also make toast over the fire on either a cast iron griddle or on the rack. it really adds to the fun of camping!!

We were given one and it does work. I like how you can monitor the progress as it is working. Setting the wire bread slice holders for use can sometimes be a little fussy if it's been stored flat for a long time.

Best camping toaster we've found is our barbeque.

I have one something like the one Donna shows in her link. It's a Coghlan's brand 4-slicer and I got it at Wal-Mart. There is a slightly different style also that only makes 2 slices. I had one of those in the past and maybe it was a little nicer (in terms of not rusting and not needing to be folded to stow efficiently), but I really like the ability to make four slices. If I were only ever going to make two slices I might look for one of the other ones again.

One note is that when I am only toasting two slices, I wrap a patch of tinfoil over the space for the other two slices. This gets the two toasted a lot faster.

Raya

Edited to add: Went looking for one like my old non-folding 2-slicer and found this folding (what looks like a) 2-slicer from Primus. It's stainless which would be preferable to me to the Coghlan's one, which gets quite rusty.

http://www.amazon.com/Primus-P-72066.../dp/B000OPQ1AE

Here is one more like my old 2-slicer (although mine did not have a handle sticking out to get in the way for storage; otoh that would not get hot when toasting maybe, which would be a bonus). This one is also stainless:

http://www.amazon.com/Stove-Top-Toas...ef=pd_sbs_sg_5

Now this one I have never seen before:

http://www.camp-a-toaster.com/

I like the look of it, and the home-invented-mom-and-pop-ness of it, but it doesn't look super space efficient (does not show it folding at all). At 5" x 9", I'm not sure if it is supposed to straddle two burners (?)

And here is one more, something like the above but a bit smaller and folds flat (the above one may fold, I'm not sure).

http://www.amazon.com/GSI-65610-Stai...ef=pd_sbs_sg_4

Now I'm hungry for toast!

I didn't make it clear that I am looking for ways to make toast when boondocking/dry camping.

Just open another window and look up whatever you want to post then just copy the link up in the white window up top and then come back to your post and paste it there in your letter.....
That's it,
Joe

A quick way to make toast is to lightly butter both sides of a slice of bread then put it a hot cast iron skillet. Cook until browned then turn over. If you use bacon grease it is even better just don't tell my Cardiologist.
The Coleman wire gadget works great, too.

I guess since this is "my" thread, I may change it now.?

I don't understand how to "copy the link in the white window up top"

I know how to use 'copy' and 'paste' in a word processing program and how to paste in an email, but I don't understand what you are trying to tell me what to do and I would like to figure it out.

Truth be told...we have a toaster too! And having grown up in Detroit, I know I am way more citified than I would have chosen to be. On the other hand, being from Detroit, when someone points out something wrong with me I just say, "I can't help it, it's not my fault I grew up in Detroit!"

Cheers John

Left click in the white window where the link is and the whole link will light up blue...... now while it's all blue put your mouse pointer in the blue and "right click" you will see a link sayin "copy" left click on the "copy" without taking your mouse out of the blue..... now that you have it go to your post letter that you are making and right click in that letter then left click on paste...... after that you can click post preview to see how you did....
sounds a little confusing but if you follow that it will work.
Joe

I get it. It works just like you said. You can't imagine how much time I have spent doing this "by hand." Actually, maybe you can.

Thanks much. John
