My Grandfather was a 2nd generation
Oklahoma Sooner. His father acquired the family homestead in the Oklahoma territory during the land rush at the turn of the 19th Century.
My Grandfather married my Grandmother in 1923, and my Mother was born the following year.
He was always known to tell a tale, and the following was one of his favorites:
I had a really good coon dog, back before your Grandmother and I were married.
He was so smart he would just bring in a coon whenever I needed a skin.
He would get one just the right size, too.
Whenever I wanted a coon, I would put a board outside the kitchen door.
Old Spot would bring in a coon whose hide would fit on that board.
The first week your Grandmother was living here she did the ironing, and put the ironing board outside the kitchen door.
I haven't seen Old Spot since.
