February 2nd, Ground Hog Day
This year, February 2nd, 2011, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day.
It is an ironic juxtaposition of events; one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication while the other involves a groundhog.

My daughter, Melissa, is a groundhog. We're planning the semi-transcontinental camping trip to Punxsutawney for her 12th birthday. She's going to be 8, so I bought myself a few years!
Regards,
Matt

February 2, 2011 is a Wednesday. If it turns out anything like the movie: Ground Hog Day 1993, can we please change the day to a Saturday? I don't want to repeat a work day over-and-over. Now a Saturday... and to be out camping. That I can handle!

I dunno which State of which Union this is referring to - it's not the USA's, which is January 26th.
Call me a party pooper if you like... but the premise of the joke is groundless... so to speak.

I don't normally quote Wikipedia, but it says Groundhog Day is "a holiday celebrated on February 2 in the United States and Canada" so I checked TimeAndDate.com and it says February 2nd too.

Yes, Groundhog Day is Feb. 2. I think the question is about the U.S. national State of the Union message on Jan. 26. They don't match the joke. Perhaps there is another "State of the Union" somewhere or perhaps the joke just got it wrong to make a point about being President of the U.S.
