Freaking Cold

This is unbelievable. Temperatures were supposed to be stable at 19 degrees tonight. Instead it has been dropping over a degree an hours and it is user 11 degrees and still dropping. Of this trend continues we could see -10 deg F tomorrow night.

I am in Coastal Connecticut.

There is more Global sea ice right now then anytime since there's been satellite observation of the north and south poles.

NOAA with all their supercomputers and unlimited resources predicted a mild winter.

The Farmers Almanac with extremely limited resources predicted what we're getting.

We're at 4 Deg F this morning with 20 to 30 MPH winds and to us that's a heat wave this Winter . We are being attacked by Canada who is bombing us with frigid air and snow . We are supposed to get record cold weather on Monday and we have already seen -44 deg F slightly North of us so only God Knows

It is 9 here in York and it is not expected to get any higher, think I'll try to sleep in BJ tonite and try out the new electric furnace.

Low of 6.7 deg F occurred about 7:30 to 8 this morning here in SW Connecticut.

I am debating plugging in power and turning on the furnace. My camper is rated to -20 so this might be a good night to test it for cold weather comfort.

I have a crappy charger. .5 amp. I expect my furnace draws more than that.

At the risk of someone from home (where it is 0°F) coming out here & shooting me, yesterday it was 72°F and went down to 42°F last night here at Cattail Cove State Park on Lake Havasu.

We are 25 min from Niagara Falls and it is -15C at the moment. A bit too cold to camp so sitting by the gas fireplace at home patiently waiting for Spring.

We usually don't see a lot of ice on Lake Ontario but these days there is quite a build up.

Keep warm folks. It is not too cold here in Calgary, (-2°C, 28°F) but we are getting a ton of snow. I think global warming means more precipitation. That was not the effect I was hoping for.

Weather here has sure been all over the map lately, that is for sure. We are getting lots of snow on this side of town too. Temps have been all over the place, -2°C right now, but a high of only -20° on Sunday.

We are expecting 30 below zero or colder in my area on Monday with a wind chill factor of -50 to -70 Deg F (Below Zero) The Governor of Minnesota is closing schools on Monday which would be the first statewide school closure in almost 20 years .Unfortunately even closing schools to protect children causes political dissent !

David,
A few years ago the Global Warmers predicted that our grand children were not likely to know snow. Now that it's snowing. the prediction is that global warming brings more snow. Global warming predictions rarely happen. (The Warmers tour ship trapped in the Antarctic went to check the condition of the melting ice. Oops!)

The latest predictions us is SW Connecticut is 1 deg F tonight.
I think it will be much colder. This is very unusual in that we have coastal waters that moderate temperatures here.

During the the American Revolution which coincided with the little ice age, long Island Sound froze over. Prussian mercenaries were deserting by walking across Long Island Sound.

It's so darn cold on the way to work this morning I saw a husky dog froze to a fire hydrant with a back leg in the air. Now that's cold.

With the current weather my Scamp looks pretty forlorn with its mantle of snow surrounded by drifts.

Current weather is a different thing than climate which has a much broader scope and longer time frame. I'm no expert on climate prediction but I can safely say weather is pretty cold outside to go camping today, and tomorrow don't look a whole lot better. Just in case anyone was thinking of avoiding the Mich. mosquito and deer fly population by camping this weekend.

Cool Some history

I recall trying to start a car in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1961 when it was -28º F!

I also recall that that year home heating propane tanks in central Wisconsin were too cold for the propane to evaporate, and they knew exactly at what temperature that happens -45ºF!!

It was sometime around then (1963) that Lake Michigan froze over, which had not happened since 1936
