There is a local website here ( (rimoftheworld.net) in Hooterville that gives all kinds of info about the area, and kindly lists all the CHP alerts and road hazards happening at any given time in the local communities.

They include road hazards and extreme weather alerts. I sure am glad I read them before venturing out.. this would have thrown me for a spin had I run into it

Taken from last nites "alerts" list:

"HEAVY RAIN IN BIG BEAR AREA NOTIFY CALTRANS ON THE 18 BETWEEN MILE MARKER 55 - 50 AND 54 - 64 LARGE POODLE FORMING"



They make 'em big up here!

Really! There are large vicious overgrown poodles up here that go crazy when it rains!
