Alf,
A smile BEETs a frown any day.
BEET your own drum but don't toot your own horn.
Don't BEET yourself up over the small stuff
If you can't BEET 'em, join 'em!
Ya' can't BEET a MFRV!

Now, what about the CUCUMBERs?

Okra sightings increase...
is it a case of global warming?

July 12, 2008
Canada North News Wire Service

OKRA SPREADS NORTH

In today's circumstances of warm winters and dry summers, biologists have reported an increasing number of Okra mentions and recipes as far as northern BC.

Okra is normally a southern dish which requires a long growing season, plenty of sun, and an affinity to eating slimy green stuff.

Now it appears the plant is invading Canada. "It may be due to the polar ice-cap melt, the internet with its chat-rooms, or possibly, a lot of hot air rising north from the US," one prominent scientist was quoted as saying at the International Okra Forum, held recently, in an undisclosed but friendly locale.

Not so, say other attendees from the Okra Institute, the Academy of Okra and other prominent Small Green Vegetable (SGV) NGOs. The pro-Okra delegates stressed how delicious and wonderful the plant is, saying, "If you grew up with it, there's nothing better!"

According to sources, the Canadians started raving about kohlrabi, which is as awful ate fresh as it is boiled, baked or fried.

Journalists reported the forum turned into what one characterized as a Free for all, "with fisticuffs exchanged," but it was later reported that all involved in the fracass "bonded over barbeque" and so an international incident was avoided.

- with reports from the coast, the other coast, and someone smack-dab-in-the-middle
