mourning the loss....

This week I am sad to report the passing of an old, close friend of the family....
the dying of our beloved May Tag, age 32. Occupation: washing machine.
I've known May almost as long as I've known my wife.
May was loyal, constant, and always ready to serve our family without complaint.
She was so devoted to our family, she even moved from Michigan to Oklahoma with us!
Despite all the dirt we shamelessly gave her, May always made things better for us.
Even when we purposely pushed her buttons, she never got angry.
May was always ready to go for a spin whenever we asked.
She rarely got shook up about anything; but on those few occasions when she did, it wasn't difficult to get her quickly back onto an even keel.
The laundry room just won't be the same without her.
Rest in peace, May Tag. You will be missed.

May Tag lies in state at the residence until Thursday a.m.
Interment to take place at Land Fill Cemetery.

Hi: Mike Magee... Our May still performs mondays. She was born in Benton Iowa and was a special Tag for my mom and then for my family. Her one redeaming feature for us country folks was her "Suds saver". Working on a well water system she returned her suds from whites to darks to save water. She still swallowed socks whole and bathed me in water when I got down on the floor to clear her throat. Her new mechanical timer ticking and clacking just can't be beat, but was so hard to find by the "Loneliest repair man in town". Thanks

Actually I haven't experienced any agitation since her passing; if I am honest in my memory of her, May was quite a loud-mouthed agitator... but always for cleanliness.

When she died, the experience was really draining. I had to bail her out by hand.

Sorry to hear that, but if you would have gotten a Real Maytag it would run on gasoline and not electricity. Many of the old engines are still running today, my friend put one on a ice cream freezer and it runs like a champ.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I hope, for the sake of your friends and neighbors, that you will soon get over your grief, get on with life, and quickly commit yourself to another 'May' or the like.

If you haven't replaced May with something that will quit spinning in about 8 years then look at the Speed Queen Commercial. She's a beaut and lasts as long as May did and would be about the same type. If you can find one without the electronic controls all the better. My $800 GE died after 8 years. Found the Speed Queen at a local appliance dealer. He sells a lot of them here in a small town. They still have a real agitator, real knobs that turn and can be replaced individually and no bells or whistles as a machine doesn't need them. My husband and Speed Queen love each other. Saw one in the store that was over 30 years old and still worked. The pump had gotten weak so a lady traded it in. I'd never go to another front loader again either. It shook so bad it cracked our room and we had to have the floor reinforced with posts underneath. Queen and I have worked together for 4 years now without a problem.

Actually her descendants come across our southern border. Born of a different parentage altogether, they are, like most of their generation, never seen without electronic gadgets in hand and an app for every different job.
Unfortunately, they have adopted the name without adopting the same work ethic as their predecessor May.
They have a fancy appearance, but they complain at the slightest touch.
They make promises that they have no intention to keep and demand three times the pay for half the work.
In short the new generation is simply not trustworthy, and they are squandering their heritage and their progenitors good name.
May May RIP!

That's why you need the loneliest repairman in the world all the time. Maytag used to be the best in home appliances.

One of Mays cousins was born and raised in Ripon Wisconsin. Around men she was known the fastest of her kind. Never really knew her name I just knew her as Speed Queen and I dated her for about 25 years but she would perform for anyone. She washed clothes like a mexhine, Hell she was a machine.

Hi: Iowa Dave... I met an Oriental lady some time ago now and I asked her what her name was. She said "May Why"? I told her I needed it for the record.
