I have heard that the deer is responsible for more human deaths, in North America, then any other animal. Of course that would be from collisions with cars, not rodeo.

A deer related story (true) that I heard went like this -

A local farmer was driving along a backroad when he hit a deer. He used some 'words' and rapidly got out of the truck (after wiggling out from under the animal that had come through the windshield).

After a few minutes his neighbour came along, stopped his truck and wondered if he could help.

They decided that the best way to get the deer out of the truck was to open both doors and scare, poke, prod the creature until it was ready to jump out unaided.

This was quite effective but unfotunately the panic stricken animal managed to kick the running truck into gear. The deer ran away at top speed. The truck drove itself, slowly but firmly, into the second guy's truck.

The insurance adjuster thought they were joking!

Don't know about other states, but PA averages 2 hunters per year actually killed by deer. Don't know how many get mauled and live.
