This web page is well known and often refered to in the forums for our small community up here in Hooterville.
We have one State hiway, hiway 138, that leads up the mountain from Cajon pass. The hiway crosses Interstae 15.
Truckers often use this hiway, which is just as dangerous and twisted as the Dragon. Yet, it by milage, cuts off about 20 miles if wanting to come up the mountain when approaching from the 15.
Smart drivers don't use it, (Which is most of them) greedy ones do.
Each year we have some sort of disaster that closes all the main routes, and the 138 is often the only way up or down.
Trucks use it, and get stuck daily. Yet it is legal for them to use the road "They pay road taxes too" is the CHPs response to getting it designated as NO TRUCKS.
There is a sign at the bottom that says "Narrow winding road for X miles (I can't remember, I think its 17 miles or so, all switchbacks) Not recommended for Trucks or autos with trailers"
It's a quandry.. if you shut the truck traffic down, the deliveries to the town are shut off. Yet, if a truck is stuck, and the disaster is fire, then folks can't get DOWN.
The local photos of the stuck trucks mimic what you see on the Dragon page. I have no idea how they get unstuck, but it involves large tow trucks.
