Ok, I'll fess up.
I know why she was singing the song.
The song is featured in the movie "Chicago" ... which we saw this weekend ... and which will undoubtedly all kinds of awards. It's a cute musical, complete with dance numbers.
In the movie, the song "When you're good to mama" is sung by Queen Latifa ... who plays Mama Morton, a prison warden in the charge of a bunch of women who killed the men in their lives.
In another song, "Cell Block Tango," the women sing:
He had it coming
He had it coming
He only had himself to blame
If you'd have been there
If you'd have seen it
I betcha you would
Have done the same!
He had it coming
He had it coming
------
In the song, the women each take a turn singing about their crime:
One women killed her man for chewing gum the wrong way.
Another used arsenic to kill her husband after finding out he was Mormon, and had six wives.
A third said killing her man was an accident ... that he had just ran into her knife ... ten times ... while she was carving a chicken.
And one murderess said she and her husband broke up because of artistic differences. "He saw himself as alive and I saw him dead."
The movie "Chicago" will undoubtedly appeal more to those who enjoy singing and dancing type flicks.
But even I enjoyed it!
