13' Vintage Trailer close to the North West!!

Hello Everyone!
While I have been reading the posts on this site for a while now, I am just now signing up! Hoping one of you can help me track down a little trailer!

I am looking for an older 13' trailer. I really like the rounded style of the Boler or Scamp, but there might be other brands out there that I dont know about. I am looking for something that is ready to go or just needs a little cosmetic TLC.

It seems like a lot of these get posted but they are always across the country! I am in Oregon and am happy to take a road trip to pick something up but it just cant be too far!!

Thanks for the help!
Sarah

Hi Sara and welcome to the group....

As there is a bit of a weight difference in 13's depending on make, year and if it has a bathroom, you might tell us what you will be towing with to better aim your search.

Egg's in ready to go condition, and that are bargain priced, usually only last a few hours if advertised, no matter where they are located. As such, you should also mention a budget range so you don't get showered with rigs out of your price range.

Good Luck and keep reading everything

FWIW, in the past year I have seen 13'ers sell for as little as $1800 (A Campster) to over $13,500 for fairly late model units.

Keep an eye on this part of the forum.
For Sale: Molded Fiberglass Travel Trailers - Fiberglass RV

Be prepared to PM the seller and move fast. In case you don't know click on their name and you get an option to send them a Private Message. Safe way to exchange email addresses and phone numbers. And good idea to post that you sent a PM in the thread that list the camper for sale.

Another site to keep an eye on is this one:
Molded Fiberglass Trailers | Fiberglass RV's For Sale

Good place to get an idea of sold prices in your area too. Some show up on Craig's List. Important to be sure they have a title in most states for any sale, but especially on Craig's List.

Welcome and Good Hunting!

Thanks for the advice guys!

I have a 6cyl older Tacoma, so I can handle some weight. I would like to stay under 5k for budget, but I'd spend a little more to get the right one!

I will keep reading the classifieds and try and act fast!
Thanks again for the input

Hi Again
Give us a year of your Tacoma. If it is a 3.0 FZ-E V6 engine (1988-1996?) there are some precautions about towing with that engine.

And yes, it's really more complicated that you thought LOL

Uh oh!! Who knew these things would be so complicated. It is a 96' V6 Tacoma. What does that mean?!

It's pretty easy in your case. 13 ft. Scamp is way under your V6 Taco weight and hitch limit.

There is some really good information here including things you can do to increase your stability and help protect your engine. Turns out there is a different fan available that pulls more cooling air through the radiator for that truck.
The Tacoma Towing Bible - Tacoma World Forums

The s runner model was lowest at 3500 lbs. the others are up around 5000 lbs. Since a 13 ft. scamp reasonably loaded is probably less than 2000 lbs. you should be in good shape. Heck you could by specification handle a 16 ft. Scamp if you wanted with the smallest V6 tow rating.

Read this for FGRV weights collected at rallies, fully loaded going down the road camping weights.
Trailer Weights in the Real World

Seen a whole lot of advertisements that claim a 13 ft. Scamp weighs 1000 lbs. which it does not unless empty and gutted of all appliances.

Hi and Welcome!

You may want to pop across the bridge and go over to Maryhill SP sometime between the 15th and 18th of next month. There will be a small rally there and you will get a chance to see a few variations on trailers and see a couple of brands ...I am sure it will be mostly Casitas but all kinds show up at these things. Folks love to show them off and lookers are always welcome.

You can come see mine if you like, I am near Carson. It's not likely you will find one of my brand, but it's another way to see how different ones can be.

Thanks Carol!
The meets seem like a good idea to see what is out there!

Also, does anyone know the logistics of bringing one across the border from Canada? I feel like I see a lot more of them posted up that way. Maybe there is a thread about it somewhere else on the forum?

Thanks for all your help guys! The trailer hunt is proving to be a difficult one for me!
