Looking for a fiberglass 17ft trailer in the westcoast

Hello,

I am looking for a used (but in good condition) fiber glass trailer.

Myself, wife and our 1.5 yo daughter are going to start a cross country roadtrip this comming summer and are looking for a lightweight trailer to tow with our 2006 Honda Ridgeline.

We are looking for a self sustained trailer in good condition that has both a bed and a dinette that can transformed into a bed for our daughter. Even better, would be a bed, a dedicated bunk and a dinnete but I am not sure if this even exists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We pull our Casita 17 with a Ridgeline and really like the combination.
Casita and Scamp both have a floor plan with the bunk etc but unfortunately no bathroom. They fit a lot in these trailers but there is a limit LOL.
They both have the floor plan with small dinette that makes in to a bed plus the large dinette/bed. Escape also has a 17 but they are hard to find.
If you want to go older it gets trickier with needing the bathroom but a Bigfoot or a large Boler and maybe a Burro would fit the bill.
I am sure others will be along with suggestions
It might be helpful to state your rough budget, spring is coming so a good time to buy as more choice.
Good luck.

Keep your eye on Craigslists within a 1000 miles or 2 from you and move fast if you see one listed.

Also take a look a couple of times a day or more at Fiberglass-rv-4sale.com.

Thanks,

A bathroom is a must for us as we will likely do dry camping here and there.
We are looking for 2006-2014 models in the $8000-$13000 price range.

There are lots of pre 2004 molded fiberglass trailers that are in fabulous condition. You might want to take a look at some older units too. Molded fiberglass trailers hold up much better than stick built units. Best of luck with your search.

You sound like us when we started out looking. We quickly realized that in that date range, we were going to spend more than that to get quality. So we just ended up ordering a new Escape 17B. We figured if we were going to end up exceeding our budget anyway, may as well go new.

Thanks,

The idea is to buy and sell after we are done with the trip because we leave the country for a while. Buying new wouldn't make sense as we take a big hit from depriciation.
This is why we are looking for an older (but not too much) model.

Makes sense. Well good luck to you. Good used ones go quick so just be prepared to pounce if you see something you are interested in.

Would a porta-potti do the trick, or do you need the privacy (or shower) of a dedicated room? If the former, this would give you more units to choose from.

Two good options I can think of.
A Parkliner with the bunk option.
A Bigfoot 17' Gaucho model, also with the bunk option. And pre-2004 models in great condition can still be found if you're lucky.

Good luck.

If a 17 B 2009 Escape fits all of your 'wants' with a price of $17,800 I may consider selling mine - advise IF of any interest! Thanks Dennis

Dennis,

It would make a difference to a potential buyer if that was US or CAD.

I notice that in rural and suburban areas with large lots in California and elsewhere many people store their trailers next to their home. My hunch is that many of them are not actively used. I suggest going to the home of these people and asking if they'd consider selling their trailer to you. In addition, you could go to places that store trailers outdoors and ask if the manager would forward a letter to the owner offering to purchase their trailer. I would also suggest joining a forum called Next Door (www.NextDoor.com) You join a circle of your neighbors, and beyond, and post your needs. It is amazingly fast and efficient...better than Craig's List.

Being Californians (SF Bay Area) ourselves, we rarely came across fiberglass rvs for sale through the conventional methods. After more than a year of searching we purchased our FGRV new. This made sense for us as we plan to keep it for 20+ years of camping!
