Hi Sue,

Just curious... Is that the actual weight at the scale? I have yet to see an egg, even a small one, that doesn't weigh in the 1300-1800 lbs range even with just basic options and equipment (i.e. often above 1500 lbs once loaded, too much for a Corolla), even though a lot of them are marked as 900-1000 lbs UVW in the paperwork. So... I'd like to find out if a 950 lbs egg actually exists.

A 13' Casita dry weight is listed as 1465 lbs for a standard and 1785 for a deluxe. This is from the factory's website:

Typically weights from the factory are bone-dry, without options, stock. That means weighed without battery, propane tank, etc. If your tug is marginal, you should perhaps only consider a trailer that has been weighed by the owner on a scale, as outfitted... and not depend on the weights provided by the factory.

Although in the past, Casita seems to be a bit more realistic with the published weights than Scamp .

Dry weight is just that, dry and empty. I don't see how you can say a 13 foot Casita is 950 lbs? Take the posted Casita weight (1465 or 1785 lbs), add water to the tank, add propane, add some supplies, tools, clothes, food, etc... and you have something that shouldn't be pulled by a Toyota Corolla. IMO. A 950 lb Casita would be great.

You are probably right. We were told the weight by the previous owner. But this might be the lightest 1983 Casita, you could have. There is no 12 volt or Gas; no stove or refrig. No water tank...just a portapotti. It's made to camp in parks with electric and water, using a cooler and a plug in little wall heater. A new A/C (fairly small) has been installed where the frige was. We pull it with our Jeep Wrangler, and hardly know it's there. It also has new axel, bigger tires and "electric brakes". a big help with a smaller vehicle. Thanks...Sue

A Standard 13' Casita Patriot is the one with the front couch/bunk beds and a porta-potty.
A Deluxe 13' Casita Patriot is the one with a [b]bath/shower and closet instead of the couch/bunk beds.

I tow my 13 Deluxe (bath) with a 91 honda Civic hatchback (98 hp, 5 spd). See photo at "Tiny tows". It works for me and I get 30 mpg.

By the way - I weighed my Casita 13 Deluxe (bath) at a certified scale dry (no water, no propane tank, NOTHING in lockers, no refrigerator, just cushions and a six pack) and it was 1,360#. I have heard that the older models were built very thin (therefore light) mine is '83 I think. I had hoped for lighter, but in reading the posts here, I guess I am about as light as I can get without major lightening campaign.

I would be reluctant about towing with a Toyota Corolla... even if it says 1,500 lbs towing capasity... I dont think Toyota would even recommend towing with one... unless ya want a teardrop trailer....

I'm sure Nancy would appreciate everyone's help and suggestions, but she hasn't been on line at FiberglassRV since: 6th February 2008 - 05:50 PM
