Tom, a 2000 tow rating pretty much limits you to a 13' trailer. Loaded weights of 17' Casitas range from just under 3000 pounds to almost 4000 pounds. Even 16' Scamps and Casitas typically weigh between 2400 and 2800 pounds loaded.

See the thread Trailer Weights in the Real World for more information. Post #297 links to a spreadsheet of the data.

That's a dry weight, which is before options, fluids, propane, and any of your stuff. A better starting point would be the unloaded weight of your trailer, with options and full propane tanks. That will likely be a couple of hundred pounds more than the manufacturer's dry weight. Then you add clothes, dishes, pots and pans, food, linens, bath items, a couple of folding chairs, chocks and other set-up items- figure another two or three hundred pounds. That puts a minimally loaded trailer a little under 3000 pounds, which agrees with the data in the Trailer Weights thread. Most people apparently carry more than the bare minimum, as the average loaded weight of a Casita 17D in the database is 3300 pounds with a hitch weight of 420 pounds.

Thanks for the info, looks like it is over the limit of what jeep recommends. Jon, have you found your 13' to be good for 7 day trips for two people (wife and I)?
