odyssey

Looking for a odyssey camper built in mid 60's in Magnolia AR. It was made of fiberglass and it folded up about 16' long. Looking for a project to rebuild. Thanks JoeH.

Du you have a pic you can post?
By now any sort of logos may be gone and if someone sees one they won't know what it is to let you know.

On this forum back in 2011 they talked about it. Showed a clip from THE PRICE IS RIGHT filmed in 1962. Showed how it folded up and out. It was said about 40 were made.

Ooooh, I remember, wasn't that also seen in "Mickey's Trailer" LOL

Seriously, if there were only 40 made some 50 years ago, why the special interest?

I live in Magnolia AR where it was made, I thing it would be cool to carry it to car shows pulled by my 69 Dodge Truck

OK... The cool factor seems very high for the 1962 Odyssey no matter where it was built.. Here is a link to the 1962 TV show, it's in post #2 and starts abut 8:30 into the clip.
1962 Price is Right camper

Thanks for posting that clip, that is what I'm looking for right now. Maybe someone knows where one might be

I am usually more optimistic, but with all those moving parts, I think the may not have lasted very long. Imagine the possible leak paths.

Maybe so. The fiberglass and maybe the springs would last, I could rebuild the rest, hope I can find one

Ok, here's what worked for me...

Get a couple of screen shots off of the TV show. Then start running RV Wanted Ads in all of the Craigslists within about 500 miles of where they were built. Put the ad in the RV For Sale section so more people see the pictures.

Offer two different "Rewards" Maybe $100 for information leading to finding one and raise that to $200 if you buy it. Be sure you put a phone number in your ads. That has worked for me in the past when I was looking for Fiberglass Sunrader motorhomes. Located three for sale that way.

With only 40 built, and they were very expensive, most were probably sold close in to the factory. Give it a try, the ads are free.

I'd even go to the local newspapers and see if they want a local interest/local history story. Make a big deal of your search for some of your towns famous ideas that were just 50 years ahead of their time.

You might also try to trace down any remaining family members of the builder, they may be happy you help you find one to restore. They may even still have one....cool! You May be able to get some family leads off of Ancestry.com

But I got to warn you, if I find one out here in CA you will have to wait for the second one to be located ...LOL
