Scamp Fifth Wheel

Looking for a Scamp fifth wheel deluxe model, prefer birch interior but will consider any deluxe wood interior. Needs high lift axle. Would like 2005 or newer. Thanks.

I bought a 2001 last year after almost a year of looking for just the right trailer. Had to travel from Texas to Washingtin State to find the right rig. We have the delux interior and love everything abou the trailer. My wife and I have been traveling about every weekend (300+ rt) and love the camper. Good luck with your search, don't get discouraged, the right rig for you is out there somewhere at the right price.

Thanks Steve, I have been to the Scamp factory and seen how these quality trailers are made. They pack everything needed in a small container as you well know. I am sure the right rig will show up for us.

If you find the perfect trailer but without the high lift axle on the later models (Some where around 2010.) Scamp started using the bolt on axle brackets. You can buy a bolt on a 3" lift bracket for around $100. Or you can buy a Dexter high lift and it can be a bolt on swap out. It is a medium skill DIY project. Even though the axle will be about $500 without shipping it is a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle than a welded axle swap. Just verify that the trailer has the bolt on brackets before buying.

Eddie, thanks for the info. I would consider going that route if the right rig comes along.

Hello Dave,

We have a 2010 Scamp 5th wheel, front bath, birch interior, beige rat fur walls, blue upholstery, fantastic fan, A/C, NO furnace, 2 burner cooktop, no oven, 2 tv's installed (the 2nd is in the sleeping loft). We are not ready to sell quite yet, but our plan is to travel from PA to FL the end of Jan, return in early Mar, then sell the Scamp. It does not have a high lift axle, is configured for a Nissan Frontier 2 wheel drive. However, we are pretty sure that it has the bolt in axle. We will check as soon as the temperatures are not quite so frigid. Occupied by 2 old farts, no kids, no smoking, no traveling pets. If you are interested, I'd be glad to post photos. I see that you are in CO, so there probably is no convenient place along our route in Feb for you to see it.

We pull a 2011 Scamp 19 with 2007 Frontier, 6cyl, 2wd, crew cab and get about 18mpg keeping it under 60mph. Haven't checked mileage at higher speed as we normally don't exceed 60, though the truck is capable of higher speed, we feel safer and more fuel efficient at 55-60. Truck has plenty of power to handle hills in MT, WY, and CO. We have no problem with sway or bounce.
