Hi all

Does anyone in Austin, Texas have a 13 foot Casita they would be willing to let me have a look at?

I've never been in one. However, I am thinking of buying one (there are a couple on the market right now), and I would like to get a feel for the inside before I drive several hours to see one of the ones for sale. I don't think I would need more than about 5 minutes.

I am generally free on the weekends or on a weeknight after about 6 or 7.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Thanks all.

On the Casitas with the carpet on the sides, is there really raw fiberglass on the back if you rip out the carpet? How big a job is that and how do you finish the surface? Or is it gelcoated fiberglass.

I am seeing a lot of older trailers with the carpet still in there. It would have to come out.

Thanks

Tom

All of the Casitas have carpet covering the interior of the shell.
Yes, the inside of the shell is raw fiberglass.
If you're looking for a [b]gelcoat on the interior, then you need to look for a double-hulled trailer: either a Burro, or a UHaul.
Older Bolers and Scamps had [b]ensolite, a wrinkly surface non-textile foam material.

People complain about the carpet from time to time, but it's actually an okay solution. Ours (10 years old, almost) doesn't retain odors (we're non-smokers, though; AND we don't fry fish indoors!), and it isn't otherwise soiled, either. (Admittedly, our trailer's not heavily used.) I actually like it... no condensation, you can hang (lightweight) stuff on it using drapery hooks, etc.

At some point in the '90s, Casita began putting a fiberglass backsplash in the galley, in lieu of using carpet there. That was probably a smart move (although it meant the kitchen window was no longer easy to install, so they discontinued that installation).

Good luck with your quest. You could give Casita a call and ask them if there's a 13 ft. in the area; they have a list of people willing to show theirs off - although the idea is you would perhaps buy a new one (and Casita would pay a referral commission if you did).
