1973 love bug entrance door

HI everyone. Just bought a 1973 Love Bug. I need a entrance door and hinges. Sorry to say, but mine came with a square door, off of what, who knows. But its a start. And a good one. Any out there? Thanks Gary.

Hi Gary, welcome to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here

What is it with Love Bugs and wonky doors? You're not the first looking! Are you absolutely sure it's a Love Bug? I only ask, because that "shape" with a squared off door... could be a PlayMor II ? http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/m...-albums86.html

Ya, the Egg-with-a-Square-Door look is also shared with the Lil' Bigfoot about 15 years later. Let's see a pic of what ya got.

As a heads up, the chances of finding a door for a 40 y.o. FGRV isn't all that good.

I recently saw a boler posted that had met it's demise with a tree landing on the roof. Should be the same door. Should be the same door as a Scamp too.

I can't see them changing the door molds when changing from the boler American to Love Bug. Other things yes, but not the door.

If not, a door should be a real easy thing to create a mold for laying up your own gelcoat and fiberglass.
I agree pics would help.

Somehow I have a feeling that you will need to learn how to love that door. Maybe fix it up a little, but it looks like a lot of original body may be missing as well. A little paint here, a few flower decals there......

Next talk to us about axle sag.....

Yes low ceiling height on door but getting used to it. And taillights not original. Wheel well lips cut off.Never heard of these Love Bugs till last week. When this was advertised in local paper. Gutted interior already. Floors solid anyways....

Got any pictures of the inside of the door frame? Interested in all sides: closet, bench, floor and top.

You absolutely need to read Cathy's trials and tribulations about her Love Bug and trying to build/find a door for her Love Bug: Making a door

As you will see, "Original" isn't a biggie in FGRV's, it's more of making it what you need and what you like. And being a bit different here and there sets you apart amongst the look-alikes out there.
