Wanted: 7" Brake Drums/hubs for 4-lug wheels

I'm trying to retrofit my 1971 Compact Jr. with brakes so it will be safe to tow behind a smaller tow vehicle. My trailer shop can order any trailer axle I want, and I'm replacing a perfectly good 2000 pound capacity axle without brakes that has 13" 4-lug wheels. They are having difficulty locating 7" brake drums/hubs. They have the 7" brakes in stock.

They have no problem getting a 3500 pound axle with 10" brakes and 5 lug wheels. That's way more axle than the Compact Jr. needs.
I just want a 2000 pound axle with 7" brakes that I can use my existing 4-lug wheels with baby-moon hubcaps!

Doesn't your present axle already have backing plates? If so you could just keep your old axle and add brakes.
Does your trailer have leaf springs? If so then the farm stores sell axle supplies and parts , even kits.

I wish it did but it doesn't. That's the only reason I'm changing the axle.
I don't think any trailer built in the 1970s that advertized 950 pound weight ever considered it might need brakes.

i have a 76 scamp..does the same apply to me in regards to brakes

or do you have a kit for a stock scamp

We will need more information. Does your Scamp have brakes now? If not, does it have the square brake mounting flanges on the spindle?
