Awning website

Hi, I don't know if this helps you, but I found this website the other day and thought it looked cool. Marti's Vintage Trailer Awnings Not sure if you are looking for a used awning or what.

crowned awnings Shady Boy & Kelty - recommendations?

We are looking at awnings that will attach to the trailer, preferably using the existing awning rail (1/4" channel). Wanting something with a crown to it (like an umbrella) rather than a flat tarp, which tend to collect buckets of water.

I located "Shady Boy"
ShadyBoy.com - The Awning

and Kelty carport
Kelty Carport ESB Shelter - Free Shipping at REI.com

Anyone have any experience with these awnings? Or similar? Can they be left alone for the day and holdup in the wind and rain?

I like the price of this one. When i look at the specs for height it says 'it varies'...sheesh.

One edge would attach to the trailer (~ 7') and the other end I'd hold up with poles (also ~ 7'). Which would make the side covers pretty silly looking.

I'm intrigued by the Shady Boy.. Has anyone purchased one and installed it? I've looked at the website, and most of the pictures and still don't get the concept of how it works! How can it extend that far and fit into a 4' case, yet have no moving parts?

Hi,
I'm a big fan of the shady Boy. Both VW camper I owned had it and the overall concept (simplicity) is just fabulous. On my future trailer, I would like to have it too. The picture I took to sell my VW might be more explicit - go to page 3 on the gallery. Basically, the fabric folds in three and expands with dome tent like flexible poles. Three minutes and you're done.

We've had a Shady Boy on our Boler 13 for several years and love it. It's well thought out and very easy to set up. Since it's not in a channel, there is a gap of a few inches between the roof of the camper and the awning. We have a previously installed track and I keep thinking that I'll use it to create a "gutter," but so far it really hasn't been a problem. Tying it down is important! In high winds we use the poles, tied down, and run a diagonal "shock absorber" line from the middle rib. Lightweight is good, but it will sail!

I just noticed this post, which is now a few months old. If anyone is interested, I'll be glad to post pictures. The company was great to deal with.

I’ve had Marti make three awnings for me. My latest is a 7 x 7 for my 13’ Burro. She is also putting small pockets in the corners so I can run fiberglass polls diagonally from corner to corner which creates a dome affect to the awning and prevents any water from pooling on the awning. It’s an idea that a friend of mine came up with and it works. Marti does quality work at a reasonable price.

Gage,
Where to you get the FG rods that go in the pockets to raise the height?

I went on ebay and typed in 'fiberglass tent polls'. Was sure to get some long enough and then trimmed them as needed.
