yes it overlaps and if you had the posts going straight up. rest the bunk on the shelf and mount your hinges. I would order posts from Scamp . Most of their prices are hard to beat.

Roger, in all thecreative efforts of the POs I wonder if the flat part of the chest hinge was installed flush with the edge accidentally or for some obscure reason. I bet if you install it in from the edge a couple inches it will still be hidden, but when you fold the bunk up the bunk will rest on the shelf and not put so much pivotal stress on that joint you're fixing.

Will your poles still be vertical?

my hinges are not mounted flush with the edge of the bunk and sure that is the way it came from scamp.

Pretty good chance that PO did some work on this. Wood shelf edge is not a "production" quality cut to my eyes. I see a spot where the saw appears to have wandered a bit on the straight side. Plus one end has small piece of ensolite patch on wall as if shelf is now a little short of what it was intended to be.

Bunk also sort of seems too tight with seat cushion when dropped to couch. I always figured the cushions had been replaced and seat was a little thicker.

Judging from what Robert is saying it seems more probable that hinge is mounted a little off which is good to know.

Am planning to replace wood shelf for now and really hope to remove couch/bunk and replace with table that drops into a bench seat (dinette for two) as a future project. However I do want to preserve ability to sleep four by putting bunk back in. I figure shelf is not in the way of dinette planned so keep future options open.

That is something that I have noticed about many OEM parts on our older Scamps. The newer ones have a superior fit and finish.

Hi I think you can use shower rod from local hardware store. The parts that would screw to your shower walls will screw to the boler bunk and frame. Good luck
