Hi, I have the above fridge in my trailer and it is not working on gas or electric even though everything gets hot on the back. From researching and talking to people it would appear that I need a new cooling unit - to send the current one in and get refurbished will be around $550 so looking for any possible alternatives out there. Does anyone have one of these working fridges sitting around or have a lead on a cheaper cooling unit.
I am loathe to replace it with the smaller dometic (2193) that is it's replacement and the fridge is in good shape.
I am in BC but at the top of Idaho.

I have a RM2202 sitting around with exactly the same symptoms as yours only worse. Will make ice in four hrs. but by hour 12 has warmed up; shroud on electric element warm; coils warm. No worky at all on propane. You might try removing it from trailer for the "burp the fridge" routine or try a new thermister (about 79$). ICBW of course, but I have an intution that if there were amateur mechanics around who really know their way around these on the cheap, someone would want to buy it. At best, I get offers for the gas control system so I guess there are controls that die even before the coils. I'd be tempted to bet you could buy ten of these things and not be able to assemble one that works. I know this isn't encouraging and purely the opinion of someone who hasn't even tried to fix one. I'd say throw money at it or buy a new one.

Yes, I know it is a long shot. I will have to research thermisters and see if that is a possibility. I did think about as a last resort rolling it around.
It's frustrating because it's in a 1999 trailer.

I have one. When I got my trailer last winter to upgrade from a 13' I found that it was missing the gas valve controls, among other minor items. I got my trailer at a surplus sale at my local Air Base. The rec area on a lot of military bases have them to rent. They thought is had a frame problem so they parked it and took some parts off of it for other units. Turns out it didn't. The good part is that I got it real cheap.
Going on, I found a guy in Minnesota who replaced his with a new one. as far as I know the cooling unit works but the fridge had some other problems. Looked like it would have been a cheap fix when I inspected it. One broken wire.
Anyway I bought it from him and took the parts I needed for the gas.
Now I am willing to sell parts. Normally I would have given them away for the price of shipping but I had to buy the whole fridge. As a result parts are now for sale.
