The folks that I've bought a lot of LEDs from for my house have a sale going on:

I'm especially interested in this one... I may just pick up a couple in anticipation of our new Scamp:

That looks pretty nice, however, the current draw is high at 1.5 amps and with 8 watts it could get pretty hot. Remember the old 7 Watt Christmas lights?
I have replacement bulbs in my fixtures of 18 LEDs each that draw .3 amps and are rated at 3.6 Watts.

@Byron - how did you come up with 1.5 amps? Using the formula:

Amps = Watts / Voltage
Amps = 8 / 12
Amps = 0.67

The old 7W light bulbs (Oh, how I miss the look of them!) had the 7W concentrated in one little spot (the filament). The 8W light bar warmth is distributed over a length of 15 inches...and it has a metal back.

The number of LED's isn't really much to go by as the light output per LED is all over the place. This bar is pretty bright at 450 Lumens. That's about what a 40W light bulb gives out.

Oops Got algebra turned around a bit. You're right. Still a bit high compared to 3.6 Watts

Pesky, that algebra!

"Watts" in terms of brightness isn't particularly applicable as a measure. What you care about is "lumens/watt". Newer LED's crank out more light/watt than older ones.
