Furnace Parts Wanted or tips on repair

Hi need some answers or guidance,

I have a dual-therm furnace model 65810-002 Trillium 4500 series 1976. Problem is the pilot light has a weak blue flame .When I hold in red botton to start for a minute or two it will not start because flame is too small.

a: I made sure there was no air in the lines by turning on the stove and the fridge which work great . I hooked up other full propane tank . Still the same problem .

b: I removed the tubing from pilot gas controller and blew it out plus the pilot itself .
Quickly pushed in and out red button on gas controller in to see if gas comes out, which it does .

c: reconnected everything and checked for leaks with soapy water - no leaks.

d: Tryed to light it again same thing, small flame

e : replaced thermo coupling and checked for leaks ,still same little blue flame problem .

f: No one sells replacement pilot light assembly or gas controller anymore as far as I know .

g: After what I have done just found out I am not legal to try to fix what I am trying to fix after I already did .Learn something new everyday already too late .

H: I guess I can't fix my barbecue next time even though they sell parts at the hardware store.

I : Now I am stuck

Conclusion :

A: Has anyone got any tips before I hire a furnace mechanic .
B: Does anyone know where I can get a replacement furnace at a good reasonable price ?
C: Maybe someone knows an answer .

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

A gas valve that works is available at the following web site. Search the first page for 41-0640.
Furnace Parts for Duo-Therm, Suburban, Hydro Flame

I would recommend that it is installed by a furnace mechanic.

Your furnace is a gravity furnace. This means, no fan, no electricity, no noise, just heat. The down side is lower heat output, and not as efficient as a forced air furnace. No one sells a gravity furnace anymore, and I for one think that is a shame.

Your trailer was designed to use that furnace. Changing to a forced air furnace would involve patching the hole for the exhaust/intake vent.

Check out the following links;

Duo Therm Furnace Settings

Also, if you do decide to replace it, please don't destroy it. Randy Bishop is looking for them.

Take it all apart and clean the spider nest out of it. Also remove the burner assembly and clean the nest out. Air won't do it, clean, clean clean.

Should I take the gas controller apart and clean it first before I buy one ? Just curious .
Is there a pilot light that I can get out there because I think it is no good either .
The burner does work when I use a propane torch to heat up the thermal sensor while I push the botton in and then turn on burner .
The thermostat doesn't work because it eventually gets to hot in the trailer when set on low and eventually I have to shut it off .

Why do you believe it is not legal for you to repair your trailer's furnace?

Your valve is working fine. Take the pilot tube off and clean it out.
A spider has setup shop in that tube and your not getting enough gas.

Get the tool for cleaning the tips of acetylene torches, it has many different size little wires for cleaning out small holes.

Sorry Randy . I will help look for other furnaces out there hope the one in Sudbury was the the one .

About the illegal part of it . The rv dealer told me that probrably to make me buy a new furnace to make money.
